Nancing about with Vilja, about 10 gameplay hours into a new game. Vilja is asking if I know a cure for vampirism about 40 times an hour. A couple of hours later I discover my character has caught vampirism. Is this a coincidence?

Yes.
My character has rarely caught vampirism - only once that I recall - but Vilja has worried about it throughout every game.
Her chatter is closely tuned to the current circumstances, but I don't think she can foretell the future.

Glad to see you again, Loriel!
When fighting a vampire the game can decide that you are now contaminated with Porphyric Haemophilia (or how they call it). Sometimes there is even a notification a bit like: "Congratulations. You have successfully acquired Phorphyric Haemophilia" and you get a shader like some small shiny cotton balls circling around you. But of course it's hard to recognize when you are at the moment focused on how to eliminate these bloodsucker-buggers... but Vilja knows. She nearly knows everything. If the player gets infected she knows even before the first symptoms show up.
But on one hand Vilja uses this comment eventually also in her random chatter. So if she says her vampirism comment, it doesn't necessarily mean that you actually got it. On the other hand if she repeats it about 40 times in an hour, you can bet that you are infected.
By the way, you can cure vampirism by praying at a shrine before you go to bed the first time after the contamination.
