One of my "must have" mods for Morrowind was Galsiah's Character Development; so, once I had oblivion running reliably, I went in search of an equivalent for it. There is one, but I cannot use it.
Allow me to digress. I played Euro Truck Sim 2 last year; there must be dozens of versions of this game in use (from Jan. '14 to Jan. '15 they went from V1.7 to V1.16 - nine versions in twelve months), and hundreds of mods available. And each mod only works with a small range of game versions, unless the modders want to spend all their time updating old mods to work with new versions of the game. After three months I gave up in disgust and removed everything. And you dare not mention dissatisfaction with this situation in the forums lest all the fanboys jump on you with both feet.
I also enjoy Sims 3 but find most of the mods for it unacceptable. Now I've enumerated my complaints with this game in another thread here, so will just reiterate it is well known that it is not the size of mods but the number of them that affects loading times and stability ... yet every modder seems intent on forcing you to install as many different files as possible. That nice house you saw comes as a single file, with a laundry list of other files you must track down and install for it to appear as it does in the screenshots. I delete such downloads and move on.
Back to Oblivion. I found "not Galsiah's Character Development" for it - exactly what I sought! I click to download and instead get a pop-up, "this file requires another file ...". Here we go. I check that file, which seems to duplicate the functions of the first, and am told - you guessed it - it needs yet another file in order to work. Okay ... my blood pressure and temper are starting to rise. I track the third file, OBSE. Fully half of the OBSE site is a laundry list of Oblivion versions with which it will NOT work! Including my version (1.0.228). I track down the patch to V1.2.0416 (a mere 5meg?) only to find OBSE says it will not work with a game patched to that version, it must be the release version of that number.
Congratulations Oblivion modders! You have managed to, in one mod, incorporate my two most detested practices in modding - requiring someone to download numerous mods just to get one functional and making that mod work only in one specific version of a game. I salute you ... with a single digit. (And have deleted the downloaded files.)
So does anyone have an alternate plan? Is there a different GCD type mod for Oblivion? Or is there an older OBSE floating around which will work with my game?
Addendum - previous versions of OBSE do exist, so my venom was premature.
