Hopefully Amgepo will be able to come up with a fix.
I was wondering if something could be added, maybe to Beata, along the lines of something my tech mentioned some time ago. When debugging code he said they 'revert and retrigger'. But he also said reverting will cause other problems when you have processes? that have advanced beyond that point. I have no idea.
But it would be nice to have an enhanced Beata in Vilja 5 that does a debug thing. Checking ALL of Vilja the mod's codes and returning the various conditions they are in.
(I'm learning more about this stuff than I ever wanted to know.)

Thanks for coming by to look at what's going on. Alright, did SQV aaembardcollegequest and got the following: Enabled? No State: Stopped Current Stage: 0 Priority: 62 So, since it wasn't running, tried startquest aaembardcollegequest. Vilja stated, again, that she had gotten a letter from Wilbert. Went to Solitude and the college, still no options for conversation. Checked SQV again, with the exact same results as above. It may take some time to find what's going on and fix it. It may help to know if as it seems, the quest is being stopped or if it didn't even start. Try again with the SQV aaembardcollegequest, just after using the startquest command on the same quest. If it does change the result, try again after few seconds and then again after fast travelling and then in the bard college. Where did the state of the quest change? (if it did start at all)

Amgepo, thanks so much for coming to the rescue here. I desperately wanted to help the OP but have so little knowledge of the inner workings of things. I tried the obvious and worked my way up, hoping my fixes wouldn't cause a disaster.
Would it be possible if you give us some clue as to what you are looking for, the 'tools' commands in the console that we can use, and what order we should try to do things to rectify situations like this? I searched the CK and BLEAH! Tom Stoppard put it best with, 'Like a blind man trying to loot a bazaar for his own portrait'.
My sweety and I pouring over the CK. We were triumphant just to find Wilbert!
"What the fork am I looking at?" "Which?" "Everything!" "I have no idea." "This couldn't make less sense if it was written in Greek!" "I thought it was."

Alright, well tried the suggestions. Did startquest aaembardcollegequest followed by sqv aaembardcollegequest. Tried it a few seconds later, then after fast travel, then at the bard college. In no instance did it ever start. In all cases I got the returned values I got above.
Enabled? No State: Stopped Current Stage: 0 Priority: 62

You can simply bypass the problem if you do what I proposed on the previous page.
Talk to Vilja Pick topic 'Traveling together' Pick 'Off Topic' Pick 'We have already done (some) of your quests' Go to the Bannered Mare and speak to Beata, say you have done the Bards College quest (or which name it'll go under) - Problem solved. You will only miss out on 4 dungeon crawling missions to find 4 book of chants
But I guess Amgepo and company would rather know what caused the problem, and this will not help in that case.

The problem as I see it, Wotan, is if the Bard quest line is broken, the entire rest of Wilbert may be as well. Obviously, since those resets fail, the quest line itself is probably just a symptom.

Not to mention that I'd like to actually do the quest line, not skip it.

Not to mention that I'd like to actually do the quest line, not skip it. When I first did that quest line we ended up using Wilbert for target practice. The radiant thingy was a little goofy: Go recover the squeaky toy from Bloodlet Throne! Well, we never fast travel so off we go, meandering. A RL week later we return to Wilbert. Next, go recover another squeaky toy from... Bloodlet Throne! Another couple of weeks, not really entgusiastic about this, we return the instrument to Wilbert. NEXT! Go recover a squeaky toy from... (drum roll) Bloodlet Throne!! Hey Wilbert, how about we put 20 arrows in your head instead? We reload and redeliver the goods. Next: Go recover a squeaky toy from some idiotic bumfuk dungeon south of Riften!! (Wilbert looks wonderful naked and on fire sometimes)

imlysa, try going outside the college and typing in the console: SetPCSleepHours 721 This will make 30 game days pass really quick, the reason for going outside, is so you can see the day and night periods passing fast and thus knowing when the waiting period is over (despite being fast, it will take some minutes, thus the need to have a visual reference of when it stops). Now type again: startquest AAEMbardCollegequest
The reason for doing this, is that the quest should start even in a game when you had not met Vilja. My guess is one or more of the aliases aren't being filled and while necesary for the quest, Wilbert alias won't stop the quest from starting. So, I think the engine can't find a dungeon meting the requirements that is not in the pocess of being resetted. Seing that, making the game wait 30 days, which is the time at which clearable dungeons are resetted may be what needs to be done.
If that didn't work, you could upload your saved game somewhere and add a link in this thread, so I can take a look at the problem first handed.

Nope, even after waiting 60 days nothing happens.
As an aside, saved and talked to Vilja, went through the steps to get to talk to Beata. Went to the Bannered Mare talked to her, went to the bard college quest and had two options. No this is new to me and We've already picked up two books. Chose that later option, exited talking to her. Travelled back to Solitude to talk to Wilber and he's still just greeting me. No conversation topics. getstage aaembardcollegequest returns a value of 0. And SQV still says its stopped and at stage 0.

Beata is not meant to fix problems, the idea is to uninstall the mod (after getting Vilja's equipment), install again and then use beata to recover the same spot in the questline.

Ran across this thread. I have been having the same problem for days. It worked the first time. Then on a new game, it stalled out the same way. Vilja gets the letter. We go to the college. And Wilbert does nothing. Waiting it out, same results. But I have done the quest before, so I'll just try and skip it out all together.
Of course I do have a few other mods activated, 251 plugins. Pretty stable with the ENB. Some customized textures. Vilja is probably just mad at me for placing a heart tattoo on her skin texture, lol. But it looks good on her.
Just watching to see if there was ever a fix for this besides skipping.

Could it be that you are using a mod that affects the npcs in the Bards guild so that Wilbert has another dialog overriding what he ought to say?

Could it be that you are using a mod that affects the npcs in the Bards guild so that Wilbert has another dialog overriding what he ought to say? I have done this before in previous game without problems. The only thing that has changed was some skin textures. No other mods. At this point, I am ready to just skip through it. But there must be a console command to get the quest started like for the first book or something. I am digging through the items and quests in the mod now to see if I can trigger it to start.
