Hi Everybody! I've heard that Mike Hancho's Helgen Reborn is a terrific mod, but every time I try to run it, Skyrim freezes on the load screen. My character has already left Helgen and has slain the first dragon, so that can't be it. Clearly, I'm doing something wrong, but what I'm doing can't be too common, since I haven't seen anything obvious on Google that talks about it. Can anyone shed some light?

The author addressed our problem: Q - I crash whenever I do ___________.
A - You may be hitting the 3.1 gig memory cap. Try drastically reducing your graphics settings and see if it still crashes. If it does not, you're probably hitting the cap. If that was not it, it's probably a load order issue or something specific to your save game, installed, or worse, uninstalled mods, or rig. Nothing of this sort has been widely reported, so I have to assume it's specific to your setup. Standard mod troubleshooting applies. Also, it is best to use a vanilla game and give things a chance to reset, even the 30 day wait, before re-entering the Helgen or other areas affected by the mod like Shriekwind. ANY mod that previously changed any of the scenery effected by this mod, even if it has been uninstalled, can screw it up. Thus best to use vanilla new game. PS I LOVE that mod. The author was so fussy and careful!

Well, I think I got it to go, or at least load anyway. Something about a conflict with "Skyrim Unbound," plus some monkeying with the load order. Go figure, but thanks for the advice, Sniffles. It did point me in the right direction! :-)

Not directed to the OP but every time I hear about somebody having trouble with a mod I visualize a garage. The car zoops right in. Then they add accessories. And more. And more. Now visualize someone standing in front of his garage a few years down the road. He's got a big box in his arms and he's trying to stuff it into a little hole in the otherwise solid morass of junk, the car completely obscured by the tangled mess. Using a sledge hammer and the front bumper of a passing cement mixer he finally manages to get it crammed in.
Then we hear the wailed lament: "The car won't start! You don't suppose I should have installed the Ploonisglorg before the Gnopfiffle, do you?"

I agree that this mod is really well done. I have never seen a mod of Mike Hancho which was not really good. I have played a couple of his for Fallout New Vegas as well as Helgen Reborn which is so much more fun that the base game or Dragonborn (the only DLC I have).

I can warmly recommend you try Wyrmstooth - it has a great main quest and a good number of side quests. You get a vast new island to explore with the mod, available on Nexus as well as Steam Workshop.

It looks pretty good, although I am afraid Sniffle's garage analogy may apply to me since I have had a couple of crashes.

I got through Wyrmwood. I ended up having to download and install the unpacked BSA version to keep from crashing excessively. It is a very nice mod, although I have to say I prefer Helgen Reborn.

I haven't played Helgen Reborn myself. I know it through Youtube Let's Plays
