Hi! I'm new to this board, so first of all:
Hello everybody! :-)
I'm not a native englisch speaker, so please excuse any mistakes.
I play a very high modded Skyrim (I reached the max of 255 mods) and ever since I found Vilja on the Nexus (was about 2014 I think) she is part of my Skyrim experience. And to the day I love every time her dad is complaining about what she is wearing - because it's the very armor he made for us, the heavy Wolfcry Armor. Yes dad, next time you feel like complaining: look in the mirror by doing so! The reason why I joined here, and I hope this is the right section to write in, is that Vilja becomes ... strange after a while in every savegame. And by googleing the issues I experience with her I found, that there are people who experience similar issues but not exact the same I have. So here I am and maybe you can help. One thing that goes weird after a while in every savegame is her clothing (and this happens regardless of how much mods I have installed or which). One time she suddenly decides to go nude in cities (she is wearing her armor till we enter the gates, on the other side she's nude - we leave the city, she's wearing her armor again) and only in cities, everywhere else she's wearing what I told her to. Then it gets weirder, she suddenly decides to wear no armor anymore. At home and in cities she's wearing clothes and in the countryside she goes nude (she IS wearing jewellery though). The newest quirk she has (my actual savegame) is that she won't equip armor when told. She is stubbornly wearing her normal cloth (they are from apachii - maybe she likes them to much ... who knows :-p). So every time these things happen I do what I can to get things in order. - reset her ... won't work. - use the script to revert the formlists related to her wardrobe system ... won't work - do the console-thing described somewhere else here in the forum (it's from 2012 - so maybe out of date anyway) ... won't work I'm pretty clueless about what else I can do ... help is highly appreciated! Oh! And one thing was kinda funny, in my last savegame I decided to not give her any other clothing besides one armor set (glass first, later Wolfcry) and didn't fiddle with her wardrobe system at all - and what happened? Yes, one time we walk the streets of Solitude, I suddenly notice she's nude again. And from that moment on stubbornly stayed nude regardless of the location (gave her a variety of cloth and armor and after a while she wore her wedding dress from time to time). These strange behaviors of her have one thing in common: They never happen before the wedding. She always starts getting strange after our marriage ... maybe my PC is driving her crazy? But how? Another thing that happened (only once - but I was very confused) was also in my last savegame when she suddenly started to hop around Ravenrock like Yoda fighting Count Dooku and then completely disappeared from the surface of Nirn. I tried to get a clue about where she is and consoled to her. I came to a place with no walls in nowhere and a lot of crates. There she stood with Bruse and wouldn't leave the place at all. Even when I consoled her out - puff she was back there again in no time. Ok, I thought, time to start Skyrim all over must be a total corrupt save. But I checked and double checked the save for bad scripts, corrupt formlists and so on - nothing. The save was, besides Vilja acting totally weird, absolute stable. There are more quirks she had from time to time, but this is already a novel, so that's it for now. If someone here has a clue what makes her tic like so, pretty please help me! I really appreciate any help! :-)
PS: One thing about Vilja and staffs. After hearing what she told Inigo about her experience with a scroll of lightning and learning that she isn't able to learn ranged destruction magic (at least fire related) I decided to never let her have any destruction related staffs. After what I read about her getting her hands on that stuff: I padded my shoulder :-) ... then I installed and played Wheels Of Lull ... one good advice: Never I repeat NEVER let her get her hands on a revolving harquebus! Fist time I died so sudden I didn't even had a chance to realize what on Nirn caused it. The second time she blasted Inigo and Lydia (and some draugr) to shreds before she did me ... I saw it happen, rushed to her to stop the triggerhappyness and died. Now she has her bow again, good thing. An arrow in my back (or knee) every once in a while is a thing I can get over with ... I'm no guard after all ...

The wardrobe issues are probably the most common problems with Vilja. I've had them lots of times. Usually I generally reset her wardrobes and outfits when she suddenly goes nude. Sometimes it helps to take the stuff in her wardrobes then give it back and redo her wardrobes and outfits. And yeah, it's a good idea to check your companions' inventories to see if they've picked something up - like area of effect spell staves. It's not just Vilja that does this. It's a feature so every follower can and will do it.

Yea, that's really a bat habit of followers taking up things they aren't supposed to. Inigo is a nice guy though he never did such a thing also Cerwiden and surprisingly Serana also, they never shot me, not with ranged weapons nor with spells. And for the rest I use AFT you can give very specific orders with AFT about what weapon to use and on whom. So Vilja is the only variable in my game. And her use of the Revolving Harquebus was my fault, I gave it to her because I thought it would be a hell of a fight if we both go on the draugr simultaneously with that thing. Oh boy,I was so wrong ...
Ok, I understand that the wardrobe issue is common, but what I tried to say is, that everything I do to get things back to normal - reset wardrobe, reset Vilja, take stuff from inventory and give it back, and so on, will not work in my game. When the problem occurs it is in some way persistent. It maybe changes a bit, but can't be fully solved. As for now, she is wearing clothes BUT only one specific outfit and if left as only option to wear besides armor, her night gown. She won't under any circumstances wear armor and I spend the last evening to sort out why or to get her wearing it again. Four hours of reading (a lot of things I already know) and trying (things I tried earlier with more or less satisfying results) without any results. And that's new, every time in the past there was a change after dealing with her issues not the most satisfactory maybe, but a recognisable result, now there's nothing changing at all. Quite confusing.

I really don't know anything better to try. I Think you need to get all the problematic clothing and armour items out of Vilja's inventory and sell them. Then you can replace her clothes and armour with new items and create new wardrobes and outfits. It's a drastic move, but it's the best suggestion I can give.

@ myself: I really need to improve my reading skills. I wrote about a weapon from wheels of lull, calling it 'revolving harquebus'. That's wrong! Correct is 'rotational harquebus'. Sorry!
@ wotan: I found a way! Kinda strange but as long as it works ... I was wandering around the Pale when Vilja again decided to go nude. I removed all her items, then checked that she is ordered not to wear armor, saved, qqq, restarted and loaded the save. Gave all items back and redid all wardrobes (setting them to autochange). She was wearing her city outfit again despite standing in the wilderness. Ok, at least she's not nude. But not as intended. I opened the Message-Box config and clicked through to the menu where one can choose when she's about to wear armor. Clicked on 'outside cities' and closed. I repeated this about eight or ten times and suddenly she changed into armor. Seems to me that I have not a problem with the Vilja mod (or any other) in this case, but rather a huge problem with script latency ... I'll (hopefully) see if that's true by playing further. For now: problem solved! :-)

Yeah. Script latency can cause some weird, funny, and frustrating moments... Wasn't so long ago I did the dinner out quest with Vilja in the Bannered Mare. She never danced though we talked about it, and when it was time to go, she remained inside. I had to go in and out of the Bannered Mare twice before Vilja emerged on the steps in front of the inn. Then she began to do her dance on the stairs I Think Mikael's performance at the Bannered Mare might have caused the script lag with Vilja I experienced.

If you want an example of script latency, take a large Party to the Windpeake inn with Karita doing her banshee thing and Erandur present. Hang out and repeatedly exit and re-enter a few times. (Your game may never be the same so make a save first.) You get that sinking feeling when you get near the place.

@ Sniffles: Nice! What would that be called then? A Half-Dad? :-P Maybe I'll check this out in a new game some time, Erandur is dead in my actual savegame. I have a nice clipping issue myself since a few days. Was walking the whiterun border to the reach around fort Sunguard when a Sabretooth attacked - after a nice little fight Matthis slew it with a nice overhead strike directly through the ground and into oblivion, only some blood on the ground was left. Since that event almost every sabretooth killed by me or a follower is directly clipping through the ground ... I never (really never!) had an experience like that in Skyrim before.
@ wotan: Vilja dancing on the stairs of the bannered mare. Nice! At least you knew where she was! Did the dine out quest one time in solitude and around 11 pm Vilja said 'let's go' and I said 'ok' and went out, after a vew steps I reckoned that Vilja was not by my side. Looked around, no Vilja. Back in the skeever no Vilja either. Searched the whole place for her, wandered solitude in search for her, went back home - no Vilja. Had a fun night searching solitude for her ... but without finding her. So I thought in the morning 'Oh well! Than be it! She has her own head, let her do her thing.' And went out adventuring with Inigo. Some days later I found Vilja by accident. She was shopping at bits and pieces. Never got a clue to what went wrong that day.

Windpeake. Clipping is the least of your worries. You may exit the place and go on about your business for weeks of IRL game play before discovering it has laced some incomplete-pending scripts into all your saved games.
One major thing that Vilja can help out at Windpeake and other problematic places like the exit cell to Eldergleam. Make a save then operate Vilja's wardrobe functions before and after going in then exiting. If there is any difference or lag, reload that save!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
