jgf: "Overall this progression is indicative of the state of games the past decade - lots of flash and glitter but little substance. But that is also reflective of the current attitude of most gamers - play though a game in ten to twelve hours and move on to the next 'latest greatest.'" That or wait for modders to "fix" it (came to mind because my eldest asked me last week if I'd be buying Starfield).

"the worlds worst game leveling and stat improvement system." There are several leveling mods that improve this greatly. I used "Realistic Leveling", takes care of everything in teh background so you just play. My most serious problem keeping me from getting a new game going is my character is UGLY. Some special race. Could somebody suggest a simple attractive face and body mod simple enough for somebody multitasking 18 hours a day to plug and play?
My oblivion is sort of major super deluxe polluted. No mod manager and I installed dozens of scenery enhancements. So thick in plants and trees the area south of Cheydinhal is a morass and maze you can easily get stuck in and take hours to escape from.
I'd love to go exploring this brave new world, and install that leveling system, but not with 'a face that can gag maggots' PC. I have no problem restarting and coping with Mr. Potato head once more.
sleepygirl Too bad Oblivion can't be made multi player. I'd love a companion to go out and pick flowers with. And somebody along to help cope with the rats and lions and tigers and bears and bandits would be super spiff.

"... it is a game that makes me happy ..."
That is all that matters with any game.
I enjoyed Oblivion, just wished there was more of it.

Vilja doesn't qualify?
Due to the more complex face creation system in Oblivion, it hasn't seen the number of face mods that Morrowind had. Most of them replace NPC faces, but it's possible to swap one of those to your character (I recall a series of "Cuter xxx Faces", different mods for different races).
BTW, another good leveling mod is "Kobu's Character Advancement" (https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/1888). Not sure which i was using when last played, have both installed still (not used simultaneously).
