GOG Oblivion GOTY Deluxe can be found here: GOG Oblivion GOTY
It's on sale at the moment at 50% off and you get Daggerfall and Arena bundled with it as well. If you want to use OBSE you'll need this version. OBSE The other flavours and varieties of OBSE won't work apparently. Because I'm a largely bedbound invalid computer games is how I pass my time so after trying out the Steam version of Oblivion and having some doubts about it I thought I'd give the GOG download a go. Oblivion is still downloading at the moment, but once it's all sorted I'll report back.

An update on OBSE, - the version on Nexus is the one to use since it's the latest version. The link in my earlier post is for an older version.
The GOG Oblivion version picked up my Steam Oblivion version's save games without any problems which was nice. I found the Steam version a bit glitchy and it crashed sometimes whereas the GOG version is so far proving to be stable and it isn't dependent on an internet connection either.

With the latest GOG OBSE version on Nexus I've found that I have to start the game using OBSE_loader exe and using GOG Galaxy to start Oblivion is a no-go because it won't recognise OBSE and load it on start up. Otherwise GOG Oblivion is way better than the glitchy Steam version and I'm really happy with it.

Hi Sleepy! How is the GOG version different from the disk version I bought many years ago?

Hi Sleepy! How is the GOG version different from the disk version I bought many years ago? I'm going to guess that one has to wear GOGgles when playing it?

Hi Sleepy! How is the GOG version different from the disk version I bought many years ago? I'm going to guess that one has to wear GOGgles when playing it? Seems to be just the same actually. You get a bunch of DLC included with it which is nice since I only had Shivering Isles back when I was playing Oblivion some years ago now. The sale is over now so it's back to its usual price again which doesn't make it the bargain it was before.

OBSE is extremely version dependent; to the extent the OBSE for V1.412 installed from disc will not work with V1.0 installed from disc and patched to V1.412.
FWIW, I'm running the GOTY edition with all DLC (though I only use a couple) and OBSE, managing four installs via MOM, and it all works very well.

Hi Sleepy! How is the GOG version different from the disk version I bought many years ago? GOG is essentially an updated GOTY version - "The GOG version is LAA and Steam's isn't, though that's trivial to fix with the 4gb patch or other LAA tool. Other than that I can't speak to performance differences one way or another. Steam has a bunch of background processes running that I have to imagine would slow Oblivion down. And there's all the wacky stuff with permissions and security on Windows that makes modding complicated; that's true for the GOG version too of course, but it's much easier to, say, do a new install of the GOG version outside your Programs folder than to move your entire Steam install out of your programs folder." With the GOG version you may run into this issue (I didn't): forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/100238-wrye-bash/page-199#entry54009393

I found the GOG version to generally run better and while it initially took a bit of faffing around to find the right OBSE version I had no problems after that. I loaded both the Steam version and the GOG version onto my fast SAS 1Tb D:\ drive right from the start so I've had no problems with modding either version. I don't have all the DLC enabled at the moment so as to save some of the quests for later.
It might seem odd, but I'm mostly using the Steam version at the moment while I resurrect some of my old mods. I really do need to download MOM though so I can manage everything properly.

It's on sale again as they're having a Bethesda sale at the moment, but I think it finishes early next month. Definitely cheaper this time around, - in fact it's a positive bargain.
