So I have been hanging out with Hurd, and it's been a blast. He's really great for conversation, and not bad at fighting, and I think he likes the sword I enchanted for him too, but I worry. He won't eat the food I give him, don't want him to waste away now. He needs to eat to keep his strength up after all, and I didn't do all this hunting and fishing so I could pig out... so out of curiosity.. is there a way (setting, script, etc) that you know of to make companions use items that are "ingredients" on top of potions? The food I give him doesn't do much, but was curious as I play with NOM and would enjoy making sure we both get to eat, even if he doesn't have to I like playing like that, and all that food he has is weighing him down, lol! (I know he doesn't actually need food/drink just a thought I had which I would find fun)

Companions do not need to eat, if you give them food they will just carry it around. Some companions (Constance, for example) will drink your liquor though, so be wary of giving them that expensive bottle of brandy to carry.
I enjoy NOM also (I think we're in the minority here), and assume companions could be scripted to require food; unfortunately my knowledge of scripting is ...nonexistent, and those with the knowledge have moved on to Skyrim.
My only complaint with NOM is its "instant starvation" - at 11:59:59 you're in fine health, at 12:00:00 you're starving to death and have lost half your carrying capacity (it's infuriating to be running for your life and suddenly you're rooted to the spot because you're over-encumbered). There is another mod - Morrowind Health Suite - which handles this more realistically: all edible items are assigned "food points" and you must eat a certain number of points each day or your stats decrease and, after several days, you die. The downside of MHS is it only works with default edibles, there's no cooking, and its method of getting water is a kludge. Ah, to have the knowledge to combine NOM and MHS.

That's not a bad idea.... MHS and NOM.... hm..... and of course the companions eating would be so nice... especially when I add in some new ones. So many things to think about.... I should look back into scripting... Also, I will add Constance since I don't drink, she can have all my brandy, I give it away anyways...

Of the ones I've tried, Constance is my favorite companion; once she's leveled up a bit and has a daedric bow she's a quite formidable fighter, but til then you have your work cut out just keeping her alive. It would be quite amusing if she also had to eat; I can just imagine her sarcastic comments on the menu, the cooking, etc.
