Crying or Very sad I just downloaded the Emma's Heads using the instructions to set up a subfolder on the desktop. I dropped the "mesh" into the data file and it opens a new "mesh" folder in "mesh".
When I get to the dock and have the option to choose my character I am getting a "default object marker_error.NIF" (that is all I can see under the other head). Not sure what I need to do to correct this. Embarassed
Your help is greatly appreciated. Applause

Welcome Clybella!
Clybella wrote: opens a new "mesh" folder in "mesh".
Really? As far as i remember every Emma's mod is packed following the original data files pathnames structure; so the unzipped folders names should be
Data Files -> Textures / Meshes / Icons (of course, headpack mods haven't any "Icons" folder)
every of these "Textures / Meshes / Icons" folder may contain another subfolder inside but, if you keep the structure intact while moving these main folders to the Morrowind Data Files directory, shouldn't be any problems.
However, if you have found a new "mesh" folder in "Meshes", just open it and move the .nif files contained in it to the Morrowind / Data Files / Meshes directory. That should work.
Also, you can try to unzip the mod again to a new subfolder on the desktop...
Now, you should have three folders inside this new Desktop subfolder, "Textures, Meshes, and Icons"; just move them to the Morrowind / Data Files directory.
Reply "Yes" if the computer asks if he can overwrite files.
Let me know if that works. Smile

Hi Clybella and welcome Smile
If you drag-and-drop the folders, they should merge with the existing folders instead of ending up as separate folders inside the original one. It's a matterof technique, try a couple of times and it should work.

Thanks so much for responding. I have extracted the files to a folder on my desktop and moved them as follows: C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind\Data Files\Meshes\Emma (all the .nif files). The texture files are in Textures with no subfile. The construction set file (I assume that is the esp file) is in the Data File along with the original Morrowind esp file (construction set file) and the Morrowind.bsa file. I have then gone in to the main menu Data Files area and ensured the plugin pkg is checked.
Additional info: I do not have the Tribunal or Bloodmooon expansion kits. Therefore I do not have MWE. I have added the JoyToKey program so I could use a joystick. (a gift from my son who said I would enjoy it much more than trying to use the keyboard....he was right!) I also changed the ini file based on a thread that suggested changing the "DontThreadLoad=0" to "DontThreadLoad=1" would prevent crashing to the desktop.
I did try some other plugins which I have removed until I get this one working. The Bitter Coast Sounds, The Khalazaa Productions visuals (1&2), Lefemmarmor & RheddHeads. I can see how one could get mod crazy! I am looking to personalize my game experience and use only mods that make some aspects of the game less stressful. I would love one that allows me to write directly into my journal (or another notepad, since my desk is getting quite cluttered with my notes)but since I don't have one of the 2 expansion packs that is not an option for me. I am not into the "fighting" as much as the quest, fantasy. Other mods I have considered were the Alchemist Formulae, the Master Trainer Fix, Real Sign Post, Abandoned Flat, MultiMark Plugin and Propylon Master Index. Can't even remember what the last two there were for! But they were on my list to check out!
I am not sure if there is anything else I should be checking....if maybe my JoyToKey program is conflicting? Since I took everything off and reloaded my game with intentions of putting the plugins on in an ordered fashion I don't have a saved game. I start at the beginning, get up to the dock to choose my character and check in Breton for my new face. Can't think of what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks for helping me. I hate to get started until I can be my own character!
Embarassed Been doing more reading (GMST contamination)and it occured to me.....I didn't realize that Tribunal and Bloodmoon were purchased expansion kits, so when I saw them as "patches" I thought they were upgrades to the original program. I attempted to load them which of course they wouldn't but then they said "congrats you have successfully loaded". Is it possible I have created a problem here? Is there a way to check this? Or should I just remove all traces of the game and start again? d'oh! thanks,
Very Happy One more try and I was able to get the Better Heads, re-release of Faces of Vvardenfell from
gorg.ufrealms.net/#betterheads and these do register. I noticed the change immediately. So now all I need is to get Emma's Heads to register. Thinking I might be getting there? Confused

As far as i remember, every Emma's Headpack should have an "Emma" subfolder contained in its "Meshes" folder (i'm not running every pack right now, just the Breton headpack... for some reasons! Wink); then, if you already have an "Emma" subfolder in your main Data Files / Meshes directory, that should be work.
But: as Emma said, just drag and drop the Meshes and Textures folders from the desktop to your Data Files folder works easier, since allows you to avoid any problem.
Don't worry for the other things (joisticks and such), they can't screws mods or the game at all.

A mode which allows you to write into your journal is indeed Journal Enhanced (requires Morrowind Enhanced); there are probably other two similar mods out there, just let me check them and i will give you a link.
Both "Multimark Plugin" and "Master Index" are fast travel mods; the first allows you to have multiple Mark & Recall marks on your map, the second is a nice quest to find the ten Propylon Indexes... Collecting all ten the indexes, you'll can travel using the Propylon Chambers which are in the Dunmer strongholds (Berandas, Falasmaryon, Valenvaryon, etc.).
Good hunting! Mr. Green

Tribunal and Bloodmoon patches the game as well. If you have Bloodmoon installed, your Morrowind and the CS will be upgraded to the v1.6820. But remember that you can't install Tribunal when Bloodmoon is already installed on your system - i.e. you have to reinstall the whole Morrowind.

Can you be more precise? Smile What's happened?

Regarding Tribunal and Bloodmoon. I do not own these expansion kits. When I went looking for patches, (since the program is several years old, I figured there would be fixes, changes etc.) I added the patch to bring it to version 1.2 and thought the other two patches were "named upgrades". That is to say, I thought that they were version upgrades to which they had attached names which would bring my game now from 1.2 to the next level. So I downloaded the patch.
When I Ran the upgrade I got this message, " Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No updates were done since the contents don't match." I hit OK, and the same message came up again, I hit OK, and got "Congratulations, Morrowind/Tribunal has been successfully upgraded."
So now I was confused.
I have checked the Data File on the game Main Menu page and found under summary, this:
24 playable breton heads, 10 male and 14 female.
* Morrowind.esm is required for this file to be loaded, and it has been changed more recently than this file. You might experience problems with the game.
I assume that all files are in the right places, all .NIF in the Emma subfolder in Meshes, the .DDS in Textures. The Emma_bret_head2 Construction Set File is directly in the Data File along with the Morrowind Construction Set File and the Morrowind .bsa file. In the original Morrowind file folder I have the Morrowind 1.2 icon, the Morrowind Launcher 1.0.0.1, the binkw32.dll, the TES Construction Set, the TES Constuction set.cnt and the TES Construction.GID file, and the Morrowind.ini file.
If these are all in the right place, I'm not sure what to do. I'll remove all the files and start again.
d'oh!
thanks for helping!

Aw, bethesda can be so naughty sometimes. They didn't release any patch to upgrade vanilla Morrowind for who don't (or can't) own one or more expansion pack... and reading the forums, these persons are several. But that is.
However, thanks to Oblivion, here in Italy Ubisoft released a new GOTY (Game Of The Year) Edition, packed in a completely new box... The GOTY edition contains Morrowind plus both the expansions. So i bought it for 10.00. Try to have a look at the stores where do you live, maybe you will find something.
Especially for Bloodmoon, a very special story that you can't miss! Smile
I didn't any internet shopping, i just don't like to do it.

Maybe that depends on the fact that the patch required one or more expansions installed, in order to work properly? But i'm not sure.

This is a rather common Morrowind warning. Unless i alter my saves or .esm files in some way, i just don't care too much about it.

I don't see any problems here. Just one thing, your system should calls the "Construction Set Files" "Morrowind Plugin Data File", ("Construction Set File" is a generic name that you get when the system still don't understand that the .esp files belongs to the "TES Construction Set.exe"), but it's a minor error indeed. When i get it, i just launch the CS to have all the generic "Construction Set Files" names changed in "Morrowind Plugin Data Files" (or "Morrowind Master Data File", depends if they are supposed to be .esm files instead of .esp files).
And the binkw32.dll is indeed the file that allows the game to play some ingame clips, which are Bink Videos.
Hope you'll solve your problem soon! Smile If you're attempting a complete reinstall, just backup your saves; eventually, we'll can tell you how to clean / repair / or upgrade them.

I am still pulling my hair out trying to fix this. I am determined to figure it out before I start my game. (stubborn, yes!)

I'm afraid I was not sure what you mean't here, so I have not addressed this issue.
I have though, uninstalled and removed all traces of the program and reinstalled the game. (oh yes, I disengaged the anti-virus while I was doing this). After installing from the CD I installed the V 1.2 update and followed that with the Better Heads .esm plugin. From there, I installed the Emma's Heads ensuring all files were in the right folders (yes the big yellow boxes...LOL). I opened the main page to access the Data Files where I checked off the Better Heads.esm and the Emma's Heads.esp plugin files. I read somewhere that I should actually go in to the TES construction file and open data files and "set the files as active" for the .esp file and save that. I did that too.
Now it occurs to me that since my problem is that when I go to create my character I do not "see" the Emma's Heads choices, that maybe the problem is "icon files"? There are two gifs attached with all the photos of the various heads. I have had them in the icon folder. I don't have them anywhere right now. Since I don't yet know how to create a mod, I don't understand how the system would recognize the various head options and make them visible to me in that box where I choose my character.
I hope you don't mind assisting me with this. I really do appreciate it.

It's simple, i meant that the files that you call "Construction Set File(s)" are named "Morrowind Plugin Data File" or "Morrowind Master Data File"; if you read "Construction Set File" instead of "Plugin /Master", that's a minor error of your system; hopefully, he will call them with their right names the next time you will open your folders. That's pretty much it.
Are these files represented with a small red knife icon?

That's wrong, never open a vanilla Morrowind mod in the TES CS, setting it as active and then resave: you could make the mod dirty! To make things simplier i will not explain you why, now... Just don't do it.
But you could open the mod with this tool instead, and look if it shows "GMST" in its window. If yes, clean up the mod; detailed instructions are in the readme.
Head mods aren't related with icon files in any way, and the pictures that you have found are just to show you the heads... so you may discard these pics.
If every file is in its right place, the mod should work correctly now. Smile
