When my character passes out they fall through the floor! When they get back up they can walk, run, jump, etc. within the confines of the collision box of the room, but cannot leave since they aren't on the floor; and they are apparently invisible, or non-existent, to NPCs. If outdoors the effect is like being on a plane above "sea-level"; I walk through hills or out in mid-air.
Saving and reloading alleviates this, but is also immersion-breaking and tiresome. Any ideas on eliminating this?

I hope you will tell me or you get a response. I had that problem and ended up reverting to a much earlier saved game and reloading the entire game to get rid of mod junk.

Any ideas on eliminating this? What's active in the load order? What you describe is similar to turning the clipping (collision) off using the console (tcl).

Not a lot jumps out at me in that list. However, you are fortunate in that you do not have like 200+ active mods. A few that I would initially suspect is anything that messes with global values. Undying Player...Kobu's Advancement...Krystina's mods....Quest Award Leveler I'd start with those and turn them ALL off and see if that fixes it. If yes...narrow it down to the individual mod by turning off one at a time. If no...try with another block of esps....repeat. Tedious, I know...but systematic is often the only choice here. Sometimes, a game save will crash if a mod is turned off and it is needed...so be aware. If all else fails: If you have TES4Edit installed and are familiar with how it works, you might also find some clues there as it lists exactly what each esp changes. Sometimes, even a simple armor replacer mod has some crazy-azz wild edits that one might never be aware of unless one sees the change in TES4Edit. www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/11536/?

And back up the entire Oblivion folder before fussing. Then if you narrow it down to a mod you don't have to worry about all sorts of scripts suddenly getting removed.

... you are fortunate in that you do not have like 200+ active mods. That's getting into Morrowind territory; my current install has bloated to around 5gig, with over 300 mods, of which probably a fourth are mergers of several mods. .... If no...try with another block of esps....repeat. Tedious, I know...but systematic is often the only choice here... Standard procedure. One step above trial and error. Worst scenario is two, or more, mods not working well with each other, rather than not working with the game. (Such as MS FlightSim ...nearly 500 installed scenery files and trying to decipher why adding an airport in Russia caused all the fresh water in the southeast US to turn a disgusting brown.) If all else fails: If you have TES4Edit installed and are familiar with how it works, you might also find some clues there as it lists exactly what each esp changes. Still learning that. (Just got Oblivion a few months ago; had Morrowind since '03.) Sometimes, even a simple armor replacer mod has some crazy-azz wild edits that one might never be aware of unless one sees the change in TES4Edit. Ah, dirty mods are infuriating; but I blame poor programming of the editor - you do something, change your mind and undo it, and the stupid editor keeps all that info rather than just reverting to the previous state of your edit (Morrowind was notorious for this; I scrapped and restarted several mods rather than risk what I had was clean, especially when some of these glitches are like a cancer - lying dormant til you are six months into a game before appearing, then it is too late, all you can do is delete that game and start anew). Then there are those mod creators who think they should include all their personal favorite game edits, even when they have nothing to do with the mod at hand. If Oblivion weren't such a pain in the posterior to deal with I would keep a separate, vanilla, copy just for trying mods (I'm trying to juggle a couple of copies now, using a manager utility I found ...Oblivion doesn't just put files in the Documents folder, it has an Appdata folder also; such lunacy should be cause for a permanent ban from any computer contact).

Have had to do that three times since October ...my thoughts regarding the alleged programmers of this game are not fit to print.

Sniffles...just turning the mods on and off via OBMM...not removing them. jgf: I was very heavy into MS Flight Sim, Combat Flight Sim 2 and IL-2 Sturmovik. I made lots of mesh mods for scenery add-ons. As for dirty edits...I got tired of dealing with others' mods and started making my own. Only the best 3rd party mods are now kept in my line-up...I hope...lol. Vilja and similar trusted, much play-tested mods. Try the 'standard procedure' ...

FWIW, I found this on another site:
"Through the console, you can easily set your character to become an unkillable, essential character. Sure, the gameplay is pretty much the same, but when your character gets "knocked out", the camera still sinks into the ground as if you had died. The a few seconds later, your character gets back up, but the camera is still sunk into the ground(in 1st person mode, your character will be sunk in the ground)! There is no way to fix this besides reloading a previous save. If you get "unconscious" again, the camera will sink even further."
I'm assuming the "Undying_Player_Mod" merely contains this console command. (I don't consider this any more a "cheat" than reloading the last save when you get killed.)

You should try out the different death effects when using Toggle Flying Camera. Squishy once managed to get Tamriel eaten by a black hole, the PC dying near Riften while the camera was hovering over Markarth. The PC can also become permanently disembodied.
