An 8500 GT? Oh you poor widdle thing! I remember when I upgraded to an Nvidia 210 and was able to set the game to 32 bit true color and 800x600 resolution instead of the 640x480. WOW!! LOOK AT THAT LOD! I can clearly see the Imperial city from the opposite shore of the lake!! I could use those setting with the previous graphics card, a 128 meg memory thing, but the PC would only take about 20 steps a minute. Pretty easy to get killed by mudcrabs when moving at that speed. That was how my first PC died. Mudcrab outside of Vilverin and no saved game..

That's where Purge Cell Buffer (PCB command in the console) comes in. It cleans things out while playing. No need to do the exit thing.
Ours is set to '5' which means after 5 cell loads...it dumps the cache. This is the best setting we've found for our rig as it doesn't break scripts like follow packages. If you set the number too low (0-1), critters and some companions might not follow you through doors, etc.
Some view this as a feature...lol.

800x600?! I haven't run that in twenty years. This old system normally runs 1080, and will again soon as I get a new vid card (probably a 750 Ti; I was concerned about power requirements, only have a 550W PS, but it only pulls about ten watts more than the 5670 that died) ...and I'll be so glad to get my 23" monitor back on the desk.

I was having a lot of CTDs, ENBoost (default settings, I think) has really helped with that, still get the odd one (so I still save before every known load screen - doors, sleeping, waiting...) but not nearly as many, touch wood. I think I've got exactly 4GB RAM (which means, like, 3.5GB of available or something?) so I'm not sure it's worth using the 4GB patch? Especially as my PC for some reason has 32 bit Windows (I *think* with Win10 I could upgrade to 64 bit but I'm not sure I have the patience/clarity of brain to do a full install with all files gone and such...)
With the Clean Up mod - does it also clean up items I might use to "decorate" (in a fairly loose sense...) player homes and the like, or does it ignore those? I don't do a lot of decorating, but my kid sometimes does.

I don't do a lot of decorating, but my kid sometimes does. Lots of Win 10 32 to 64 help files out there. With 32 bit you are using less than 2GB RAM. Takes special tweaks to use more. Clean up mods only remove generic unowned game junk. NEVER NEVER EVER EVER EVER purge cell buffer in your home. Anything not in special containers goes poof. Things you pick up and place in your owned home stay there because the game never purges owned homes. If in doubt drop the goody you want to keep, open the console, then type setownership <space>, click on the object and hit enter. That is also how to clear the stolen flag on objects. Outside your owned home generic game junk will be removed in the next cell purge but stuff that is owned will remain (persistent).
