I'm sitting here wondering about the Updates being force feed us by Steam. Are there any improvement to the game mechanics in these updates or is it all just CK money grubbing crap that does nothing? That then brings the question, are SKSE retroactive to older exe. files? Can I just wait and grab the final version, presuming there ever will be?

So far the updates are just CC content. The only reason to update is so you can utilize the most recent mods. I am pretty sure that the SKSE is version dependent. So no you can't use a newer SKSE with older Skyrim exes. So far people are releasing 2.00.7 and 2.00.8 versions of things. But that will end soon. Frankly I don't really blame Bethesda, they are in the business of making money. On the other hand there is really no excuse for Steam making it so hard to not update your program. Voluntary updates, OK, forced updates, not okay.
