Looks legit, and four discs is correct (surprising they haven't put it on DVD by now). Steam planes, lol ....someone found some old Victorian drawings of "flying machines" and created them for FS9, highly improbable but interesting to fly around

Nice. As an old steampunk tabletop wargamer I would soooooo like to give some of those a try.
Aaaaannnnnd I've just gone and purchased FS 2004. My only problem is likely to be not letting my daughter see it or I won't get to play it for ages.
Um, - will a moderator come and make us all sit in the naughty corner for talking about flight sims on the Oblivion forum.

Couldn't find the aircraft carrier shot but here's the Staaken bomber near Chattanooga, TN, early morning And my favorite "modern" plane, the Bonanza V35, over Tokyo (plane and scenery are payware)

Nice. As an old steampunk tabletop wargamer I would soooooo like to give some of those a try. The designer made about half a dozen of those, that one was "Henson's Steam Carriage, 1842". If you like science fiction, there is everything from the old Fireball XL-5 and Supercar to a Klingon battlecruiser or Star Wars Tie fighter. And some pure silliness, Snoopy's dog house, a witch on a broom, etc. If you have the patience there is a nice recreation of the Hindenburg, so complete that you start in the lounge (where you can walk around, look out the windows, etc.) and must make your way through corridors and stairs til you find the control gondola ...and spend three days crossing the Atlantic. And the aircraft carriers, don't know if Piper Cubs are rated for carrier operations ...but mine is Aaaaannnnnd I've just gone and purchased FS 2004. My only problem is likely to be not letting my daughter see it or I won't get to play it for ages. You can install on as many systems as you like, as long as you use a No-CD patch. So maybe you're safe there. Um, - will a moderator come and make us all sit in the naughty corner for talking about flight sims on the Oblivion forum. Lol, hopefully Emma is still lenient about that. Or we will spend a week guiding hordes of NPCs through Oblivion planes (planes, lol).

One of my IL-2 favorites...the Polikarpov I-16...the good and bad. I recall trying a demo of IL-2 years ago, there was something i didn't like about it but I've long forgotten what. It's on my list to try again, though not until I get something better than this laptop. I much prefer bullets and iron bombs to sending missiles towards a blip on a radar screen.

Um, - will a moderator come and make us all sit in the naughty corner for talking about flight sims on the Oblivion forum. The thread has gone a bit adrift, yes, but no one has complained. I'm more concerned about discussion about illegal things or of discussion that goes against the Terms Of Service. A little off topic here and there is minor. edit: that said, Emma did make a Gamers Lounge area and something like a Flight Sims thread would be a good idea over there.

That does sound like an awfully good idea Blockhead. So back to Oblivion here and Flight Sims in a new thread in the Gamers Lounge from now on gentlemen.
There were Dwemer glider and sky ship mods made for Oblivion, but I never used them because I thought they were a bit on the lore breaking side.

IL-2 is about the combat in realistic aircraft. Beautiful old cockpits and gun positions. Any number can play...from one to as many seats you have in aircraft. A group could play all the positions in a bomber or take single seat fighters. AI has its limitations due to age...but still pretty darn good.

I guess I'll get my FS 2004 game discs later in the week all going well, but in the meantime I've started off a new flight sim thread in the Gamer's Lounge area of the forum where we can go 'chocks away' to our heart's content.

Yes, much like real world conversations we did meander a bit. We'll have to be careful about discussing those Oblivion planes.

Out and about with T'Saara. The Mythic Dawn shrine was well and truly raided using stealth and archery. T'Saara isn't really much of a melee fighter since she's not especially strong and her sword and shield skills aren't especially good. The Oblivion plane training establishments are helping her along with that though since stealth archery isn't always the answer to every situation and sometimes when push comes to shove sword and shield is the only option. With a bow though she is becoming very deadly indeed as many bandits are finding out. A rare screenshot of T'Saara on horseback. The late Prior's horse hopefully follows her about from town to town and won't go home so occasionally she feels obliged to ride instead of walking.

Wow, that's one way to clear the sinuses.

.... AI has its limitations due to age...but still pretty darn good. I've never encountered an aerial combat sim that had realistic AI, they're either dumb as a box of rocks or they're all aces who never miss a shot. I recall the AI in SWOTL were so fixated on the player that they would completely ignore a squadron of B-17s bombing their home town to chase the player half way across Europe. EF2000 was absolutely deadly, once you had done what your mission called for, successful or not (you never knew anyway), go full afterburner and get the hell out of there, staying below radar altitude, because in a couple of minutes a pair of MiGs would arrive ...capable of defeating the entire NATO air forces by themselves. There seems to be about a dozen versions of IL-2 available, I just ordered the "1946, Complete Edition".
