Hello, and thanks for the amazing Vilja mod. I love the mod a lot, I had two issues with it. The clothes, which I replaced, to be compatible with CBBE, and the hair. My issue with the hair is that I am using the brown hair and on gear/cell switch the hair reverts to blonde and goes back on brown. I have learned from the support thread that Vilja uses wigs for hair.
I want to solve the switch issue by using permanent hair instead of wigs. Though, I am new to modding. I have went inside the creation kit and tried replacing the hair, but it would not let me. So, I had to use TES5Edit and replace the NIFs for the hair. That worked but the switch still happened from the blonde wig and into the current hair.
I believe the switch happens on one of the scripts but which statements/files do the switch?
I would appreciate it if you point me in the right direction.
She has a permanent hair, the wig is part of the system that handles her clothing and armor and is supposed to be equipped just for a brief moment (depending on the script load you have in your game).
I didn't recall Vilja's system workings in detail and currently lack a computer that can run Skyrim to check it, but I think the hair is changed in a script that controls Vilja's awareness to everything around her (so it's not a good idea to avoid the script running entirelly).
Maybe you can solve your issue by just changing the wigs color. I recall some problems with wig colors, but I think it was related to trying to bound the color of the wig to the actual color of her hair, so giving it a defined color shouldn't be an issue.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to respond to my question, amgepo. I appreciate it. I do not understand why the wig thing is needed at all. I have seen other followers with equipment management that do not use them. Can you shed some light on this?
I have tried changing the color of the wig into the color of the hair, yesterday. The result was less annoying. I got a partial flash this time, to the side of her hair. I have tried removing the awareness aaemselfawareness.pex file from the scripts folder, but the switch still happened.
This mod's scripts didn't manage equipment directly, they lead the engine to do the dirty work. This on one hand makes enchantments on equipment affect Vilja and on the other hand reduces the impact on performance; but it needs some adjustments here and there, by using "unequippers", for items that tend to get stuck. One of those "unequippers" is the wig.
If the script controlling the wig is not aaemselfawareness.pex, could be viljascript.pex. Removing the first one is a really bad idea, but not as bad as removing the second one. If neither of them does the work, removing the one doing it, would not maim her as much, but would keep being a bad idea.
Besides affecting her AI, removing a script from the game will make the engine behave in odd ways when the script is called and there is no script to do the work. Could even slowly corrupt your saved game.
Thanks again for the information. I do not understand how those unequippers work. Though, you said they are needed for items that may get stuck. The hair does not change at all. It is the other objects that do. I mean Vilja changes gear etc. Are those "unequippers" used for the purpose of forcing the engine to refresh the items on Vilja, by equipping then unequipping them right away, to make sure the main items not bugged/stuck?
I believe viljascript.pex is the one responsible for the change. It cannot be disabled since it is the main script. The source code to Vilja would have been nice.
Anyways, I have managed to dodge the wig switching problem by removing the armor for the wig and that worked for me for now.
