My current character has reached the "Wolfcry Armor" stage of the Romance quest, but she is on a frolic of her own. She does not follow me when asked to. She walks in the opposite direction when we are dungeon crawling, that is to say she walks away from me, then returns, then walks away again. She does not fast travel with me and needs to be summoned. I have configured her wardrobe, but only have contents for Home, Urban, Wilderness and Winter set, figuring that would cover the bases. When doing a performance at the inn in Winterhold she wandered in and out of the Inn. She stays put when we actually perform, but removes her armor and is naked. In cities or at home, she will be chatting and I can hear her but she is not near enough to interact with. I have done the following things so far : 1. Changed her configuration from Wardrobe to default, 2. Changed her configuration to not being allowed to run ahead to being so allowed and then back again.3. I have cast the reset spell on her.4. I have sparred with her on numerous occasions. 5. I have selected the "desparate"' option in dialogue. We have even been to see Beata, although there are really no missing quests type issues. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. This seems to be one of those situations where everything BUT the romance is a bit haywire and all of Skyrim is her sandbox.

have you tried this: Just tell her to wander (relax) and then you fasttravel somewhere else. This will make her go where she is actually going - for some reason she obviously is heading to a specific place. this could be related to for instance an alias from another mod. When you are in a location far from her, use the T-key to wait for say 24 hrs. Then, make Vilja's quest your active quest. By doing so, you will see a questmarker for her on your map. Travel to her and ask her to join you again.

If Vilja is naked when performing, usually that means you didn't assign clothing (0 armor rating) in that wardrobe (please refer to the wardrobe guide for more information).
In addition to what Emma said, have you used any options from other mods (e.g. My Home is Your Home, Simple Multiple Followers, etc.) on Vilja?

I will try Emma's suggestion and yours. I assigned clothes with no armor rating to the home and urban wardrobes, assuming that "urban" would cover performances at Inns. I have been very careful not to use dialogue options from My Home is Your Home on her. I do not have SMF. I do have UFO. I think UFO has one dialogue option which could be used on her ("dress yourself") but I have not done so.

Urban does cover the interior of inns, so if you have allocated clothing with no armour rating to her urban wardrobe, she should put that on when she performs in inns.
I would follow Emma's suggestion first and try to get her back under your control.
Once you have her under your control again, see if she will now put on her clothes when performing at the Winterhold inn. If she doesn't do so, briefly open and close her inventory then try again. Also see if she does the same at a couple of other inns as well. If she still does not equip her clothes when performing, then I suggest using the "Fix For Corrupt Form Lists", which you can download from the Vilja Nexus site. Follow the instructions that are included.

If she doesn't wear assigned clothing or armour, you can try to take it away from her, then give it back --- worked for me after she refused to wear her armour, after the wedding quest, when we met a dragon. Vilja also has the option to do her own thing while you're idle. She may also run ahead of you if you let her. So checking her status might be an idea.

If I recall correctly that is what she did post wedding with my other character. I may well have done just that I do not recall. While I have tried to learn from the experience of my "first character", my memory can get muddled. What I do remember is not to ask Sindra to sing the Cruel Sisters song, unless you are prepared to grow old or go have dinner and come back later.

One common problem with not following that is built into the game engine. You go into a dungeon, make a loop, and come out a different way or different exit. The follower then tries to retrace steps and go out the original exit. There are about 30 dungeons that cause this, from extensive crawls like Labyrinth to a simple tower in the reach. One solution, other than retracing your steps which can be impossible is to re-enter then fast travel the moment you exit the dungeon.

Yes, Sniffles, I have noticed that too. Her pathing seems to me to be generally better than vanilla followers and what I was experiencing was her trying to go somewhere triggered by an event unknown to me. I followed Emma's suggestion and things seemed to be resolved for now, at least until Skyrim starts being Skyrim again.
