I have rescued Vilja from the boat, and went to see if I could get the donkey tail quest out of the way. I chose to try and get the ingredients from the cave. I got them, the quest updated, gave them to Heneri and she asked me to get alto wine and honey nut treats. Vilja however did not stay with her, and followed me on my hunt for the treats. When I came back, she started asking me for the ingredients again, and I could not proceed with the quest. How do I fix this? I saw somewhere that typing "Setstage XX056A71 25" should work, but it didn't.

I've not come across that before, but it sounds as if a mod conflict might be the cause. Have you a save from before this happened? You might try loading a save and seeing if the same thing happens again. It's best not to try console commands to solve quests unless one of us suggests it.

Reload a save. The only way to fix. It's happened to me several times. Using setstage will perilously screw up all sorts of things.
Things to check that will trash the quest line: Every time Heneri or Vilja asks for ingredients or other, wine, honey nut treats etc, make certain you do not have a special or quest item of the same type in your inventory. For example I had a bottle of Alto wine that wasn't normal. Came by it as a gift or reward. Trashed the quest. Another time I had a stolen honey nut treat. Heneri took it and all things Vilja were frozen forever.

Do I need to complete the quest to progress in Vilja's Romance/ Bard quests? I'm considering just ignoring it if I don't. I think it might be because Vilja didn't start talking to her when she was supposed to. I had the same problem with the escort to the farm quest, had to tp Heneri to me, because she could find her way to the back of the farm.

You need to finish Donkey Tail, absolutely... There really needs to be some kind of auto fix/check of the quest line: -Meeting Hlavdan in Riften completed. Several things can interrupt it there. Dragons and vampires can easily trash the quest line there. -Eldergleam exit-arrival at Hllalu Did the quest line even update?? -Leaving Windpeak to rescue Did the bellowing banshee interrupt Wilburt? -Post rescue at Hllalu, all collecting trips completed, Vilja gets spells. Especially Wine and treats/Vilja staying with Heneri -DT initiated Starts but doesn't start. As Heneri taking the stolen Honey Nut treat or Vilja hasn't learned spells. -DT properly completed. Had to have Amgepo's input to get that hammered out. Vilja romance was hung for 6 weeks of game play. All 6 of those have hung Vilja's quest line for me repeatedly.

If Vilja was supposed to stay with Heneri at that point, might it also be because the script wasn't allowed to complete? I've nearly screwed things up by not allowing the game enough time to run it's script - various times when NPC's have a lengthy discussion and are then supposed to walk over to me for dialogue comes to mind. That part of Vilja's quest is one of those times as well - iirc, she tells you she's going to stay (or does Heneri?). I had to retrain myself to give the game a minute.. and to dialogue Vilja after almost everything.. redit: or what about using that menu option, creating that helper NPC at The Bannered Mare? If you're running multiple mods, leaellyna, are you using a sort-order tool, like BOSS or LOOT? edit: Heneri will take stolen treats? And that will muck things up? That definitely needs a check - whatever it is that allows fences to see stolen items when "trading" but not regular vendors.

This entire thread needs to be moved to Mod Support Known quest breakers I have experienced, no mods involved. -Riften. Meeting Halvdan for the talk AND the wedding scene. Dragon invasion, Vampire attack, thief attack, two locals getting into a fight. If any of these occur while a Vilja script is running, speak to Halvdan, go get married, they can stop the quest line. -Getting ingredients, in Eldergleam and after. If any item is quest marked or stolen. Quest marked-always, stolen-sometimes, breaks quest. -Leaving Eldergleam. The exit is weird. Vilja leaves on her own but never goes where she is supposed to. PC leaves with Heneri-same. The presence of NPCs or monsters, the local giants and dragon both range through that cell. The cell is also close to a spawn point. Had a spriggan spawn there and screw things up. -At Hllalu. Again, giving wrong ingredients or items or a dragon invasion. 4 or 5 opportunities to goof things up, pre and post rescue. -Windpeak Inn. It's mostly Karita's scripts stomping on all other scripts. This can trash Vilja romance and bard quests and wedding-in laws quests.
