Hi, just want to check - when Vilja asks to find a place to wander when she's at home, does this just mean "take her outside and tell her this is a good place to wander" and then she can change cells and potter around the garden, or can I pick somewhere further afield. E.g. I've got a mod house (Heimsgaror) just southeast of Half Moon Mill which has quite a nice garden, but could I tell her to wander to, say, the shore of the lake due north of Shriekwind Bastion, or to Evergreen Grove?

I haven't used that feature myself, but I believe she will visit places you designate as 'a good place to wander' when she isn't following you and is in sandbox mode, i.e she does her own thing.

I would suggest keeping it close to your home to avoid having to hunt for Vilja. I use Breezehome and the area immediately behind it . There have been times when it took a bit to find her and there is no vegitation to hide her there. I'm not sure what the actual size I am really defining when I gave her that space.

I use that house mod myself. I just take her outside the door and suggest that this would be a good place to wander.

Hmm, fair enough. I'd like her to be able to go for a proper walk (not super far, but, well... away from her neighbour to the northwest!) but I don't want to risk her getting lost, my plan is probably to have this character meet her earlyish, bypass the first bit of her quest with Beata (? the person who can come to the Bannered Mare), and set her up in her own home (my character will be living in a tent, doing bounties) then pick her up a bit later, so I don't want to get back and found she's gone wandering into a vampire den or something... (I know NPCs don't do a lot of independent wandering when you're not in a nearby cell, but Vilja seems to have a mind of her own...)

My Vilja's main home is (a modified) Breezehome. I have her set to wander the Whiterun marketplace.

Ah, that sounds good, I'm trying out Leaf Rest (opposite the Sleeping Giant) so I've told her to wander to Alvor's smithy, that gives her the length of the village, I'll see how she gets on. New question: is there any way to tell her a specific bed is hers, like I think was the case with Oblivion Vilja? I will check next time I play, but I just thought of it now. My character is newly married to Duraz from Interesting NPCs, so it was a bit awkward when we all (along with Inigo and Meeko) arrived home late at night, I told Vilja to relax for a while, so she got into her nightie and went off to bed in the master bedroom. Duraz didn't seem especially phased by bunking in the follower single beds with Inigo (and me, of course!) but I'd rather let Vilja know to sleep in one of the nice red-blanketed beds in that room... Editing because I don't want to spam the board by posting again on the same thread: Obviously, being from Intersting NPCs, my wife isn't someone I can properly introduce to Vilja. In some ways, this is fine, because, well, Duraz isn't really a chatty sort, and I can see her pretty much just glaring if Vilja tried to talk to her. On the other hand, Vilja is very friendly and chatty, and it's a shame she's not even trying to talk to Duraz. I'm wondering if it would be a Very Bad Idea to introduce Duraz to her as someone else, so Vilja would be saying stuff to her, and Duraz would just not reply, or would that cause issues because the game would be trying to have whichever NPC's name I gave respond? It's not a huge deal if I can't do this, am just wondering. (As it is, I'm just going with 'Vilja can tell Duraz isn't super keen on lots of social interaction and is giving her some space' which, you know, is quite nice of her, really. I am also definitely interpreting most of Vilja's 'you leave her alone!' as being as much about Duraz as about my character, given Duraz is usually the one getting beaten up on in melee )

There's a dialogue option under "About this place" that shows Vilja where you'd like her to sleep.
You may be very entertained if you introduce Duraz as someone else to Vilja, since her lines can be very specific to that NPC. It won't break your game if you want to try it out, but it would certainly look goofy.

Ah, brilliant, now she knows her own bed, I've put some trinkets in the chest next to it to keep her happy.
Ha, that could be amusing! At the moment, I'm being slightly spooked by the coincidences - Duraz just said (we're in, er, another player home, actually) 'wow. How many mudcrab shells did you have to sell to buy THIS castle??' Immediately afterwards, Vilja and Inigo started up their chat about whether mudcrabs are scary or not...

Oh dear, Caccia and Duraz broke up! I got a bit swept up in what I think is the end of Vilja's main quest and kind of installed a divorce mod in the hopes of being able to romance Vilja. Duraz is fantastic, definitely a new favourite spouse/follower, but she just doesn't have the depth Vilja does, of course. I'm choosing to headcanon it as Duraz realising she misses being single and only really got married because she didn't know what else to say when she was asked...

Vilja has set an extraordinarily high bar for follower mods. It's impossible for us to now install other follower mods without it being painfully obvious how shallow they are in comparison. The exception IMHO is Bananacat, Inigo, and this is because of behind the scenes collaboration between the mod writers. (Some of the dialogues between Vilja and Inigo can become utterly surreal. Far beyond what their respective developers ever dreamed of.) Vilja and Inigo are, for reasons unknown, both standing on the dining room table in Lakeview Manor. Vilja remarks disdainfully, 'Dirt dirt, everywhere dirt.' Inigo eyes a fox that has just made an entrance from the bedroom I never even knew was there then the two start discussing some recipe. Suggestion to Emma, added Vilja dialogue-> What have you been drinking? It smells like something you would use in a lamp.

Yup. I've also got to hand it to Emma - her voice acting gets a fair bit of knocking, but when it counts, she can get you right in the emotions...
