Help! I need to move my Skyrim saves from my SSD to a bigger HDD drive. I have win7 ultimate and I try using mklink command to do that but fail. Can anybody familiar with using this symlink help me? Any other methods to move the saves are welcome as well.

A symbolic link does not move anything, it creates an entry in the filesystem's index to point to a different location for a file or a folder (like a shortcut on file system level). I would simple move the whole "My Documents" or "Documents" to another drive... Copy the whole "Documents" folder to your HDD, then right click on "Documents" (library) in explorer and choose "Properties". Now all you need to do, include the new folder location on your HDD and remove the former location on the SSD. p.s. after some testing you can delete the Documents folder on your SSD, of course. It will not be used any more.

Well I use the mklink and it works fine for a long time but then I got hit by a virus and have to reformat my drive and I forgot how I did it before since it has been a year ago.

The first screenshot shows me right click on "Documents" in the Libraries and then choose "Properties". In the new windows click on "Include" and navigate to your "Documents" folder on the HDD, then choose "Remove" for the "Documents" folder on your SSD, finally click OK.
Probably reboot or at least logoff and on again.

I still couldn't get it to work, Skyrim seems to insist on placing the saves on my C drive. Thank you for the help I will keep on looking for a way to solve this and I still think mklink is the answer just wish I know how to use it properly.

I have a similar setup here at home and it works just fine with Skyrim (C: is my SSD and D: my HDD): And this is where my savegames are: D:\USER\documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves

What version of Windows?
With Windows 7: Open the folder that contains My Documents, My Videos, My Music etc. Left mouse button click, select Properties at the bottom. In the new window select Location tab at the top. The panel in the middle shots the path. Click the button Move. Browse to the folder where you want it and select.

I would think your first idea with mklink using junctional link would be the best here to redirect folder path midway, library path changes don't really do much after the registry is set.
Here's the command for elevated command prompt mklink /j C:\(your old path) D:\Documents

Very nice mklink tutorial. www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/278262-mklink-create-use-links-windows.htmlAnd a word from the techs: "Be absolutely certain you do not have conflicting links. While it is possible to have more than one link in a hierarchy chain this must always be avoided unless you know exactly what you are doing and have taken steps to avoid - lock out - any possible conflicts." I had my savegames rerouted to drive E: then dorked and added a link to Skyrim's save games. When I went to save a game it was instant CTD. Duhhh. Don't forget about the GUI to handle your links: www.rekenwonder.com/linkmagic.htmThe downside of that GUI is it will happily do the screw ups as the techs mention above.
