I finished this Mage Guild quest and talked to Traven. After he talked about Mucilage Alias and the necromancers (sounds like a rock group) his lips stopped moving and there was no further text on screen but the voice continued for a couple more sentences regarding "take this amulet, it may prove useful to you...". But I was given nothing. Further conversation merely informed me to talk to Polus about advancement before my next task.
Checking the UHS, UESP wiki, and a couple of walkthroughs elicited nothing about any amulet being offered at the end of this quest. (I don't recall this from the other time I played this far; but that was months ago.) Have I missed something in this quest? Is my current game corrupt? Or did the game just hiccup and play a sound file from another quest? (After having to reinstall this game twice in less than a year I'm leery of any odd behaviour.)

Did you go get your promotion from RP then return for the next quest?
I remember there was a lot of bugs with HT mentioned in the UESP Wiki that have been cleaned up. Deleted. One person mentioned always making a save game before going up to see HT. Him doing himself in and the PC getting the filled soul gem was a serious show stopper as was acquiring his rooms afterwards. Never store anything in his room or it's containers.

Advancement was no problem, and already finished the next task (but have a save after finishing the previous task and before talking to Traven ...just in case).
Never used Traven's quarters; too small and cramped, especially with a companion (and her wolf) in tow. It's bad enough having to go up there to talk to him - Caranya and the guy in the white robe are always there, so you're bumping into each other and tripping over furniture just to get your next assignment (you would think someone of his importance would have a more "palatial" dwelling). And the only exclusive item there - the duplication chest - is so limited in its use that I never bother with it.
(This "house" reminds me of an oddity in Morrowind. You become the head of House Redoran by assassinating the previous head. But do you get to move into that huge mansion he once occupied right in the middle of town? No. You are given a comparatively tiny home out in the desert, an hour's walk from town.)
