I usually go with "she's vastly outnumbered and I don't trust anyone who pays bandits money (also I like scimitars)" in most of my playthroughs, tbh. Or I just ignore the whole bally lot of them.

I think that it also depends on how you motivate your PC. I'm currently a ningheim who was shipwrecked, love "alternate lives". Now I'm thinking about how the ningheim back story,"touched" by the Nine and feared by the general Nord pubic would affect the PC. In this reference would she be supporting the "agents" of law or would she try to assist Saadia, identifying with the hunted women? If as I'm thinking she was leaving Skyrim, being shipwrecked and forced back might have a negative effect on her mental health. Yes I have to much time on my hands.

I have never seen such an extensive analysis of this quest. I have never done anything but help her, because, as Rylys says, she is a lady in distress and I am a gentleman. Plus, I find the forced interruption of me by the hunters right after I have killed my first dragon to be Bethesda-annoying in the first degree.

Squishy does that quest... well, she has a custom save: TargetPractice7 I think. Just before entering Swindler's Den. She especially loves standing in the water at the end of that cave, gives a dragon shout then hones her head shot bow skills.
