Hi, I'm an italian player and I'm enjoying Vilja in my play for my first time with my new character. I'm a sneaking/illusionist khajiit that doesn't kill creatures, and don't use armors or weapons, all in master difficulty. using illusions, the game is much easier than one can think, but I must avoid most quests so I'm doing almost only sidequests and Vilja's quests.
I'm skipping skyrim's main quest to not kill dragons, and have set Vilja to avoid fighting. Even if I was skeptical at first, I found she perfect for playing a peaceful and good character (sometimes she asks me to catch mudcrabs, but I simply ignore her).
The only thing that goes against my playstyle is her request for a Dragon bone during her main questline. I haven't start the quest that spawns dragons in the world, and won't join in the dawnguards (i know there's a dragon bone somewere during that questline). I have used the console for this, i thought it wolud be nice to have a sidequest by Vilja in the future that leads to a dragon bone somewere. It can help players that want to avoid dragons entirely. I know there isn't a big need of this feature, but maybe is something that can be done in a future version.
Thanks for the attention and thank you for your work! ^^

I second this suggestion. I have a character in the Thieves Guild who does not care at all about dragons or the main quest, and now her only concern is to help Vilja. I've already been through Dawnguard with a different character and don't wish to go through it again with this one just to get a dragon bone. I will just use the console to get past this part, but I agree it would be nice if you can detect progress of the main quest and generate an alternate side quest for the dragon bone if the player has not progressed far enough in the main quest to spawn dragons.

Or just drop a dragonbone in a dungeon someplace.

Placing dragonbones at the known dragon roosts would be a good option.

If you have the Dawnguard DLC there is a Dragon Bone in Castle Volkner, in The Alchemy Room, where the portal is. There is also a Small Pearl and several other things.

Placing dragonbones at the known dragon roosts would be a good option. That would actually be a good idea, because I did check the dragon roosts first and there appear to be skeletal remains of dragons at some of them. Although maybe still do a main quest check so as not to drop dragon bones into the world if the player has progressed enough to trigger dragons. Don't want to make it too easy! Yeah, I knew they could be found in Valerica's study with Dawnguard, but like the OP, the particular character I'm playing isn't interested in vampires. I can't remember since it's been awhile, but I thought you have to go through several Dawnguard quests to access Valerica's Study. I already used the console command. Feels kinda cheaty, but that's how it goes.

Mages have another option, as there is dragon bone in Labyrinthian.
