Try going to Riverwood and talk to the two thieves. Go to Dawnstar and talk to Wilbert
May not fix things but that is a good place to start.

I manually installed my mods. So I now have a gigantic mess in a folder along with all sorts of patches, and some or most are outdated. I'd like to have a mod organizing program that can check for updates that actually connects to Nexus. Then I have no idea what patches are the right ones. Mess mess messssssssss. Nertz. Personally I would go with the legacy Mod Organizer over Nexus Mod Manager. I have used both and MO is only slightly harder to use and give superior control over your install. MO can check for updates. I don't use LOOT except when I are early in the install process. It okay if you don't know what your doing, but once you do you can do a better job manually. I use a lot of patches to make thing work just they way I want and LOOT really spoils that by moving the order of things. You wouldn't believe how complex my "character visual overhaul" is. I use 19 different mod files and if they get out of order I have black/gray face everywhere. I also quit using MASH/SMASH or what ever the auto patcher is called for the same reason. Being able to do small individual patches is an advantage of SE since I can load many of them into the FE area. So my approach of many small patches may not suite your setup. Depends on how many mods your using. Many of the serious Dev types swear by WRYE. The documentation is very technical, usually out of date, etc. So I have never tried using it. VORTEX: Never tried it or even looked at it. So I have no opinion. Short Version: Mod Organizer is much superior to Nexus Mod Manager.

Thanks very much!!
AND........ a question! ? I want to take my present Skyrim installation, the folder and all subfolders, and archive it away in the Deep Black Hole on my storage drive(s). Then make a new installation in a new folder in the same location. A nod to the idiocies of Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit(s and pieces), folder and file system inevitable screw ups. Any suggestions or foreseen pitfalls with this dumb idea? This is basically what I do when upgrading my install. Rename the folder, copy to new folder. (If something goes belly up, I can go back to my old install.) Since Mod Organizer doesn't put stuff in your program folder, it's not as space intensive as it sounds. If you're using Mod Organizer you can even point it to use files from your old install. While i can't promise there isn't some glitch I haven't thought of, it sounds safe to me.

Alternate Start - Live Another Life (Already mentioned) Lucien (Also already mentioned) Works fine with both Vilja and Inigo Song of the Green - is also a good follower mod you probably have not used before. This runs on the vanilla follower system so if you use it also install Nether's Follower Framework (already mentioned) Interesting NPCs is a good addition adds lots of depth to the game. Can cause minor incompatibilities and problems but well worth it. Serana Dialogue Edit - If your going to play the quests, Improve Serana a lot. No compatibility problems I am aware of Total Character Makeover - Good baseline character look upgrade. Ran fine on my potato.
Things that might not be potato friendly Majestic Mountains Blended Roads

You like multiple characters, so I would use Nether's Follower Framework uncapper Honed Metal - This one allows you to ignore smithing if you want for better character development. Ordinator - again better character development (And tested to not mess up Rigmor) Hardly need to mention Skyrim Unofficial Patch
and like amgepo says, Mod Organizer - gives a lot of flexibility to try out stuff
Since I now use Special Edition and use MASS modes, I am otherwise unsure what I would consider essential.

Rigmor has indicated that the reboot for Rigmor of Bruma will soon be coming out. He said that afterward, a reboot of Rigmor of Cyrodiil will be next. What really surprised me is hearing about more than one planned Rigmor of Tamriel mod. Wondering whether the first Rigmor of Tamriel mod will come out before Inigo 3.0? Good question, but I'd go with a new Rigmor. But wouldn't bet on it.

Just got word on Patreon that "Rigmor Reboot" is about to enter early beta. Mail indicated that eventually it will be available on LE and SE. See they got you covered Sniffles . Be a nice change from the depression inducing "The Last of Us II"

Well, we're back in action so to speak...starting from square one with a nice shiny new Acer Nitro 50 which seems to run Oblivion perfectly. OMG...where to start? Vilja, of course... :) Reasonable budget choice. Should do Oblivion well. Me I was having fantasies of you doing a gofundme drive for a top of the line rig.

Bought it from the Divine Elegance store. Sorry about the quality of the following pic, I'm feeling a little green right now. Must have been added since I last updated that mod. I had forgotten how big a difference screen resolution makes, these pictures look so much better on my home computer vs. my office computer. My sympathies to those who don't have the income to blow on highend equipment.
