10PM, West Weald Inn. I had just rented us a room and gone upstairs to put some surplus items in our traveling chest, leaving Vilja relaxing downstairs. As I return to the second floor there is a commotion downstairs, several people yelling and one distinct "thief! how dare you steal from me!". I get to the first floor in time to see a guard run in the front door, pause beside Vilja for a few seconds, then turn and exit ...with Vilja following him! (The only time I've ever seen Vilja go through a portal door on her own.) When she hasn't returned after a couple of minutes I go outside, to find her standing in the middle of the street drinking from her mug. "Let's go", and we return to the inn; the rest of the evening is normal.
Was this a scripted Vilja event? If not, what happened?

I've seen Vilja steal lots...check her inventory. The item might still be there. I think it is part of Oblivion rather than Vilja...we can't see her responsibility levels in-game...perhaps Ms V's isn't 100.

Interesting; I had no idea Vilja was prone to the "five finger discount". Having read that Vilja would not accept stolen items when asking for sweetrolls or drinks, I never give her anything stolen; so when I found a hot bottle of mead in her inventory ...well, she apparently isn't the sweet, innocent young lady I was lead to believe (now I wonder how she conned her way out of the predicament with the guard ...or maybe that's why she's been asking for money so often lately - I've given her 25000 gold in three game weeks because "Melinda needs help").

Yes, responsibility...like aggression, confidence and energy...are hidden values for NPCs. Vilja is no different there.
