I stumbled onto this Fandom Skyrim webpage (https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Forum:CC:Console_Command_Batch_Lists_(Skyrim)#How_to_use_these_lists...) that had this:
Step 3: Save the File to the Skyrim Directory
In the "Save" dialog box, navigate to the Skyrim directory. Default directory locations are listed below.
Steam: "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim" Non-Steam: "C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim" or "C:\Program Files\The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim"
My question is what are they talking about with the Non-Steam installation paths? I didn't think you could play Skyrim without Steam unless you used some sort of serious hack. Are there so many people doing it that the variables are included in a how-to article?
Thanks

Maybe I'm wrong, but weren't the very first copies of Skyrim actually non-Steam/regular install?

Yes it's true! I still have a disk for Skyrim! I don't know much about it except there's an option somewhere in the steam directory where you can play Skyrim without using Steam. (been so many years, I think I only did it a couple of times, i.e. like when the internet was down)

Okay, that would explain it. I imagine it wouldn't be worth anything even if I could find it on ebay? You don't use it, graykin, for a good reason I assume? I should forget about it because it's not really an option? Thanks

I should forget about it because it's not really an option? Thanks I would look for the reasons and experiences of those who have also used it on some of the Gamer Forums to be sure of if this would be a good option for you. The last time I used it was when my computer died about 5 years ago and I downloaded the basic game from it to the new computer. I at first thought I had lost the Vilja Twins, but when I logged back into the Steam site, I was able to reload all of the files I had been using as they were still 'on the cloud' there! I do remember also using the 'off-line' version on several occasions from an option on one of the pull down menus on Steam but haven't even looked for it in ages.

I can't figure it out. Everything on ebay has a steam key. There are a few places on the internet that say this is the install path and my only guess is maybe in some countries it was released without steam. Google calling "close enough" an exact match doesn't help the search. It's looking like dealing with steam will be easier than finding an answer to maybe a pointless question. Thanks for you help.

A little late to the conversation, but I have the disk for Skyrim, and it installed to that non-steam location on my other computer, and then it required that I log into Steam to verify my install/license. And then it pulled all the file from Steam again. So no matter what your getting the game from Steam.
I have often played Skyrim with Steam in Off-line mode. So it really doesn't matter much.
On my current machine I just installed it from Steam.
Hope that helps.

And then there is the popular Steam Skyrim that after you install it you get the error message Steam Not Available in Your Country and it locks up, sometimes crashing the computer.
