My first exposure to TES was Oblivion and I suppose it spoiled me with its graphics, because when I decided to try Morrowind I played it for 10 mins, became disgusted with its clunky feel and graphics and promptly uninstalled. Having discovered Emma's fine modding work with Oblivion and the fact that she seems to be heavy into Morrowind, I'm beginning to think I may have made a mistake. Still the UI and the graphics are a major turn off for me. So, it occured to me that perhaps others felt the same and that there is likely myriad solutions and mods that bring it closer to the look and feel of TES4. I was hoping that some of you had some suggestions and would be kind enough to share them here for me and others to paruse. I know in this age of TES5, to be looking backwards instead of forwards seems strange but then I would like to kind of experience TES from front to back, even if just to try out some of Emma's mods in Morrowind. I don't need suggestions like player homes or companions, just stuff for updating the graphical environment and UI, the rest I'll discover on my own. Thanks in advance for your input.

Morrowind's UI is hardcoded, so it's very difficult to change it, but the Morrowind Code Patch does allow you to resize the windows. MCP is part of the Morrowind Graphics and Sound Overhaul (MGSO) project compiled by Kingpix. You can find the overhaul at PES: planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8987 Note that the archive is 2gigs, but he did release it in installments if you have a slow connection. I'd have to dig up those links though.

In my case i love Morrowind above all things one of my first games that give me the chance to modding, I play oblivion and stop (i don even have installed oblivion anymore) and return to Morrowind and it happend again with skyrim wich are visually gorgeous maybe in my case is something more nostalgic but i reccomend look back and give it a chance, old graphics nothing has to do with the experience is part of the charm of playing old games and if you are really desperate about it is always Morrowind Graphics and Sound Overhaul

To be honest I found that the TES3 UI has so far been the pinnacle of Elder Scrolls game interfaces - since then we've experienced a gradual dumbening*, with a few exceptions like the nicer dual-wield mechanic in Skyrim. In particular I object to the consolidation of clothing and armour parts, and the poorly-implemented-for-mouse-users UI glitches that you get quite frequently in e.g. Skyrim. They have a 'selected item by keyboard/controller' focus that only updates on mouse entry, so scrolling with the wheel or having a dialog box pop up under your cursor will often make you select something you didn't think was highlighted. These sorts of basic UI constructs are easy to get wrong if you only test with a gamepad...

* - wait a minute, that's not how you spell dumbening** ** - wait a minute, dumbening's not even a word!

Well, Skyrim was aimed at the console market, Neko, so it doesn't surprise me that the UI doesn't work as well for PCs.

- I totally agree, with the qualifier that I've not played every Elder Scrolls game, just 3, 4 and 4a*. I do prefer the Morrowind interface to that of the other games. One right-click to get all the spells and inventory management all at once... nice! The map being available all the time is something I missed all the time in Oblivion & Fallout 3.
