Hello there I believe this may be a decent place to put this thread as it's about a Morrowind mod, so I hope I am not over-stepping something. Before I am told to try another forum, the reason I am asking for help on this one is because someone here may know something that the people on the other forums do not. Please read below for more details. Ok, first, my problem: I can't get MGEgui to start. It is constantly crashing on me. I have Windows 7, I've downloaded all of the necessary files (net, directx, etc.), I've redated the Bloodmoon bsa back to 2002 to bring it in line with the Morrowind & Tribunal dates, I've tried taking out the .dll files and putting them back in, I've given the Launcher, .Exe, and Mgegui admin privileges, I have UAC turned off, I've changed the resolution many times, I've tried various versions of MGE, and it was all to no avail. I don't necessarily need MGEgui, but I want it to help enrich my playing experience and so I can install a mod that requires it (Third person crosshair for over-the-shoulder). I've tried the troubleshooting tips of many threads about MGE, yet at the end of the day, it always says "MGEgui has stopped working." I do NOT have the Steam version, but the boxed one. I apologize if posting this was against any type of rule or if it is distasteful. Thank you any and all who read this, regardless if you replied or not.

What version of Windows 7? 32 or 64 bit? Also, have you tried MGE XE?

Thank you for the reply.
I have the 64 bit version & unfortunately MGE XE gives me the same error.

If Morrowind is in the Program Files (x86) folder, it might not matter if UAC is off because that's a "protected" folder. Games or any other program that needs to access the HD or computer directly shouldn't be put there. Now for my next question: can you post a log of the error you're getting or maybe the error itself? Specifically, does it mention a particular service like ntdll.dll?

My Morrowind folder is, indeed, in the Program Files (x86) -_-
Where should I look to find such a log?
It doesn't mention any specific .dll file, just that it says "MGEgui has stopped working" when I try activating it.

I'd move it somewhere like Games\Morrowind or something. As for the log, when you get the error message, click on more details (or something to that effect) instead of close. You should be able to temporarily uninstall MGE (move/rename the dll files that came with it as well as the MGEUI.exe file), move the whole Morrowind folder somewhere else, then run the launcher. If that doesn't work, I can find out how to properly move Morrowind without having to uninstall and reinstall.
The x86 folder is one of those things that works on some people's systems but not others, which is why I don't use it for games or anything else that needs system access.

Well, I was able to successfully move my Morrowind folder in C: Games, but unfortunately, the MGEgui still does not work, despite re-doing what I did in my first post in this thread. DX
How aggravating haha!
Thank you for your help, Jac; it is greatly appreciated. I just don't think MGE will or could work on my system, for some reason.

I had an issue with MGE XE not working until I told Windows to turn off Data Execution Protection for it, which is why I was asking what the details of your error message were. When you get the error message, click on more details and it should say what module is at fault.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that there isn't any type of "more details" button or anything like it. It says it's stopped working and closes.
Also, Win 7 won't let me turn off DEP for it.

You need to turn off DEP for the Morrowind.exe file. I find it a bit strange that Windows won't give you a detailed crash report though. Without that, it's nigh impossible to figure out why it's crashing.

Ok, so I finally got it to work. I downloaded DirectX9...but I already downloaded it & it didn't work before, so I can only guess after doing everything that I did, that re-installing it would make it work. Sheesh -_- Haha thank you for your time & patience Jac; it really is appreciated. If you need any help with anything, let me know, & I'll see if I can help you in any way I can.

I actually do have one more question: Do I need to keep the GUI running while Morrowind is running, similar to running the LaL controller in the background? [Edit] Answered my own question. Thank you

More than likely one of the DX9 files was either missing or corrupted and reinstalling the package fixed the issue. Reinstalling DX9 won't break anything because the installer should only install the files that are missing or corrupted, but having it around is always a good idea. The only help I currently need is for beta testing a Fallout 3 companion mod. I'm waiting for the rest of her dialog from my voice actor, so it'll be awhile if you're interested. I think I posted a WIP/RELZ thread in the member area, but it's been so long (I released her without full voice acting about a year ago) that I forgot. We can discuss that later if you're interested.

I actually am interested, as I like to give feedback for things that need the polish. Unfortunately, I do not have Fallout 3 & I would rather buy it than torrent it. You say it'll take a while to get your dialogue, so that is good because it may take a while for me to buy Fallout lol
Just for future reference, the Steam download version of Fallout 3 is compatible with this mod? I'm fairly sure I remember some people having trouble with a certain type of mod with Steam, though I am unsure if it's companion mods specifically. -?-

It should be because I'm not using the script extender (FOSE). I know FOSE isn't compatible with Games for Windows, but it disables that. I have all of the dialog written, I'm just waiting for the rest of it to be voiced so I can add the files in.
