New player and really happy to find a companion mod w so much class & capability. Really great.
Could someone post the path to get Vilja to craft some lockpicks? I keep no getting it wrong.

Just give her at least one iron ingot, and then use the "I need you to do something"-topic to make her work at a forge. She will produce 5 lockpicks per iron ingot.

I'm still missing something, probably the method of giving her the iron. I've put an ingot in her inventory by "Let me check your gear" and by "Lets just talk for a little while/I have a gift for you". Then "I need you to do something" placing the pulsing crosshairs on an anvil. She starts pounding but no lockpicks anywhere I can find. Where are they supposed to be once they are made? After I wait several minutes and the view pulls back to 3rd person and start rotating, I stopped her with "E - Talk to Vilja" and she says "Do you want my help?" I must be missing something obvious.

Are you using another mod that puts her in sandbox-mode?
She should give the items to you when you talk to her when she is working at the forge, but if she is in sandbox mode while following (a la Serana), she will not do so (which is why I disabled sandboxmode when she is crafting, but other mods might add it again)

Oh rats! Thanks for the info, now I'm going to have to figure out which mod is interfering. Vilja is my only companion mod, but a dog named Ghost showed up as an available companion from somewhere and he is not listed in the Skyrim wiki as being a vanilla companion. I dismissed him, but Vilja is still not making lockpicks. Will try to see if she can make any craft items at all. Really really enjoying Vilja as a companion, adds a huge added dimension to the game - and she hauls extra stuff without complaint too I used to live in Germany and my ex-wife is German, and sometimes Vilja causes me to burst into laughter because she will say things I can so so imagine Ruth saying. That dry, blunt, slightly blood-thirst sense of humour. Is there by chance some way (console command) to force her out of sandbox mode for crafting perhaps (beyond what you have done)?

Heh, I'm actually swedish, not german . But I guess the sense of humour might be similar . I went into my game to check and double-check, and she made me a huge amount of lockpicks, so it must be a mod interfering. You can make sure that she is in follow-mode when you ask her to make lockpicks. Also, do NOT allow her to wander around when she is following you (this is the sandbox that I'm putting her out of). Also, what forge is she working at? Could it be a forge from a mod? If so, it could be that this particular forge is not set up the same way as the vanilla ones. When she made lockpicks for me today, it was at Adrienne's forge in Whiterun.

Thanks for the suggestions as to how I could be doing this wrong. I am using a very nice little house mod and it has been that forge than I've been using and Vikja has not been using. Several good suggestions to follow up on. I had noticed you are in Sweden and that Vilja is a Swedish word. Just suspecting there might be a bit of a North European realism seeping in to the humour of the North European peoples. Look at the current financial crisis in South Europe. I remember reading like 10 years ago that Sweden had looked at their finances and realized they needed to make adjustments, when it was fairly easy as opposed to the flaming disaster south of the Alps. Back to Skyrim, much nicer place .

SUCCESS! You were exactly correct, the problem was using the 'Forge' in my mod house instead of the 'Blacksmith's Forge' in the Skyrim world. Thank you not just for an excellent mod, but the patience to teach me about the ways to mess up and unmess up a mod.

Good news! And I learnt something new, too - that Vilja might not be crafting at "special" modded crafting stations. Which housemod is the "Forge" in? We should have a look at it and see if there is a logical reason why she doesn't use it the way it is intended. She obviously doesn't consider it a forge, anyway!

The mod is Rayeks End - Mini Hideout by Rayek v05 downloaded from Skyrim Nexus.
