I have been playing this fantastic mod, with all the mods that I am about to list and had zero issues, until a few days ago. I have tried resetting the character, dismissing her for some time, re-downloading the files from Emma's site and re-installing, having a friendly fight and nothing works. Th problem is that she has no idle animation, won't follow but she periodically warps to a fair distance from me. If fighting happens near her she joins in but it's back to zero animation again afterward. She whispers when I sneak, which would indicate that she's aware of the situation but she stands there outside of the crouched potion and is spotted by other NPC's. I'm at a loss for how to correct this and it really does break the "companion" immersion.
Please let me know if there are issues with my mod list or load order (which was performed by BOSS) all mods are cleaned as required via TES5Edit/ Here's my list, corresponding to load order"

I should mention that I've tried allowing her to lead and in this state she works perfectly but if I suggest allowing me to take over for awhile the problem resumes

I'm not familiar with all of the mods in your list, but I see you have UFO. Have you used a UFO command on her? In any case, do avoid using a command from a general follower system on her as it can affect her AI.
If you re-install, always go back to a saved game dated from before the problem began. Skyrim saved games keep a memory of what has happened up to the time of the save and that may be why you haven't been able to get rid of the problem despite re-installing Vilja.
As a general point I'd advise anyone to save frequently and not rely on auto-saves. I also recommend making regular and frequent backups of the whole game folder. I never have less than two backups at any one time (which I rotate) and sometimes I have more. It can save you a lot of grief. If you ever do need to restore from a backup, always re-start using a saved game that is dated not later than the backup you have used.

If there are options in the UFO mod for commanding Vilja, I'm not aware of them, so I have used no commands for her, other than those contained in her program. I have told other followers to follow Vilja however. Being as having other followers follow Vilja is part of her program, I can see no reason for that to affect her. Is it possible that the idle animation mods are affecting her behavior and if so is there any way around it, such as load order?
Is it possible to open the save file in notepad and screen it for problems in the Vilja entries?

It sounds like Skyrim Sorcery to me...
You could...fall back to Beth's tired and worn out statement of "Start up a new game", when things don't go as well as hoped. ROFL...sorry I'm just being flippant ( no coffee yet ) over a very real issue your having and trying ( probably hopelessly ) for a bit of humor here.
Looking at your mod list and what you did, it appears you've done everything possible. Though your list does show BOSS as putting UFO as loading after Vilja, so there is that possibility. I'm thinking along Seyheb's lines, that it may have something to do with UFO ( even though you haven't used it on Vilja ), as I've read there are some various issues with that particular mod for some people's games. When and if you start up a new game, you may want to uninstall UFO and maybe try AFT ( Amazing follower Tweaks )instead, as it seems to have less issues for most people using it.

I think Falion has picked on a good point regarding your load order. As a first step I suggest moving UFO above both of the Vilja mods and seeing whether it makes a difference. Next, if that doesn't work, try disabling UFO. Finally, as I mentioned in my first reply, there is something I don't think you have tried yet. You have already reinstalled Vilja once, so I think there's probably nothing to be lost by reinstall her again, but if you do so, make sure you re-launch your game from a saved game that dates from before your problem began. That is very important for the reason I mentioned above, i.e. that saved games carry a memory of all your progress up to the point when you make a save, so you need to use an older saved game that does not carry any memory of your problem because there's a chance that it will override your otherwise clean re-installation. Incidentally, going back to the issue of general follower systems like UFO and AFT, whilst they are excellent packages, they are designed mostly for followers that use the basic vanilla follower system, not for followers with their own AI and custom packages like Vilja, and while some people do use them very successfully alongside custom followers, I believe there is always some risk of a conflict or worse with custom followers, particularly if they both offer some similar functions. Secondly, in my opinion they try to provide too many options in a single package, many of which you will probably never use. You can usually find individual small mods to do what you want by searching the Nexus. Although as Falion said, I've also heard that AFT has fewer issues so it may be the better one to use if you do want such a system, my personal view is that I'd rather not use these large general follower systems alongside a custom follower mod like Vilja. One other point: Do you use the Nexus Mod Manager? I use BOSS but it doesn't always get every mod into the correct load order. NMM makes it very easy to move individual mods around in your load order and also it makes it easy to enable and disable individual mods. I don't use its automatic installation function, I always install manually, but NMM is invaluable for troubleshooting your load order and testing for conflicts. Once you get everything working again, I recommend that you make regular backups of the whole Skyrim game folder if you aren't doing that already. I hope you can get Vilja working properly again very soon.

Thank you for the replies, your attempts to assist me are greatly appreciated I've bitten the bullet and loaded a game from before the problem happened. I have all the same mods as listed above (and more) and she works fine. Maybe, as Falion says, it's that "Skyrim Sorcery" (the dark stuff) In answer to your question about how I install my mods: I use Nexus Mod Manager, Wrye Smash, BOSS and TES5Edit, as required, to keep things running smoothly, although, despite these fine efforts, we have .... this A major convenience in the game is the quick-save feature, which I use all the time, so much so that I neglected to do a full save for a great many hours. I've had to go back quite a long way to get Vilja working again but I'd rather endure that than play without her. To save this from happening again I've downloaded yet another mod called "Save Hot Key ArchMod - for SKSE", Which makes it just as convenient to do a full save. The hot-key to full save method takes no longer to perform than a quick save but I suspect that clearing out old saves may become necessary as the numbers get high. Here's a link: www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/17329/?I've also taken your advice and overruled BOSS so that UFO is higher up the load order than all of Vilja's mod-plugins.

Having been using UFO for quite some time, UFO commands do not show up on Vilja at all in my game even when UFO is loaded after Vilja.
Can you describe more in depth when/how Vilja stopped working? Did it happen all the sudden without any reasonably game changes on your part? From what you've said, it seems that all she does is just standing like a mannequin and warp to you? What happens if she is leading then you asked to lead for a brief while?

I can't say enough BAD things about Quick saves, IMO they are almost as bad as auto-saves, but that's just my opinion. I haven't used either type of save in a Beth soft game in...oh...a very LONG time. I've gotten into the obsessive behavior of doing manual saves about every 5- 10 minutes, and always just before starting up a new quest. I have about 800 saves on my external drive...*facepalm* ( yeah I know, I know ) and only keep 4-8 saves in my save game folder at any given time. Thanks for the link Dualm

I'm very glad things are now fixed, Dualm. Also, thanks for that link. I agree with Falion about Quick Saves. I never rely on them any more than I would Auto Saves. I make full manual saves whenever I approach a door or cave entrance/exit, or move to another area or cell and in any case, every 5 -10 minutes or so. I have around 1,700 saves stored (!), though many of those are from previous play-throughs and one of these days I should get round to deleting some of the older ones. Regular full saves and complete backups of the skyrim folder every week or two and whenever I'm about to introduce a significant mod to my game has saved me from much trouble. Obviously I rotate the backups! I agree with you too Blockhead. I learned my lessons about saves back in Morrowind and Oblivion.

Seyheb, you make my saving mania seem tame haha! But with Beth's games one can't ever be careful enough, so we're all warranted for being a bit OCD

Once again, thank you to all who offered assistance. Although I lost many hours of game-play, I have my favorite traveling companion back and a fix for the full save feature that aids in retaining a given moment's immersion Now I'm off to peruse the threads, to try and alleviate my wardrobe woes. She simply won't change into anything I've selected for her
