Oh well... I have never asked for any help before (going back to Morrowind early days) but can't find any answers in any of the forums. I don't even know if this is a problem, as it hasn't interfered with any of the quest I'm currently pursuing. I have two Viljas in my new game in Skyrim. I met the first one in Riverwood the Mare and had her with me to the Greybeards training and then to the Mage school. I installed the cottage (Highview) and love the rustic nature of it as well. I did fast travel to the Mage school and again to Riverwood to meet Dalphine the blade. And then there was another Vilja! She was dressed in her leather armor and at first would not follow so I used her reset spell and she has been fine since! When I talk to them both there they are always on different topic's. When we went for a walk with one leading the other would try to get in front of the one leading on occasion. When one wants to ride the other just walks (only one Bruse). They will look at each other but so far, I haven't heard them talk together. It's been fun but one Vilja is enough of a handful so I've been keeping one at the cottage and the other with me and swapping them every other quest or so. Am I doomed somewhere down the road? I can't bring myself to terminate either one (I know! what a softy!) Her dialogue has just gotten better by the way, but she did ask me how it felt to be the Dragonborn in front of the ambassador! And once when fighting she said she wasn't a newbie (just what my daughter calls me!). Thanks for any advice or assistance you could provide! P.S. I also just upgraded to her new version before I went back to Riverwood if that helps? Graykin

Either you've found Vilja's secret twin... or some mage made a clone of her -- that sounds plausible at least.

I don't have Skyrim, so all I'm going to say is ... do you have a save from before this happened?

Already the fact that you met her in Riverwood and not in Bannered Mare in a *new* game (??) makes me totally confused. Have you been saving a new game on a slot where you have kept an old game before, so that the duplicate Vilja might be an artifact from another of your games? Are you sure you are talking about Vilja? There is a companion called Cerwiden who can be recruited in Riverwood. But she doesn't have a horse and I doubt she has a reset-spell. I'm sorry, I really cannot answer at all as it sounds totally crazy . Could you please try and explain a little more indepth (i.e. your description is indepth, but as it is so... well, extreme in how it can not work... I really don't know what to say)

If I can figure out how to post a picture? Yes, I have been saving over older saves. I did meet the first Vilja at the Mare, then the second one (after the greybeards) in Riverwood. Some of the saves were auto-saves. I did coc to qasmoke at the beginning of the game with the first Vilja (no excuse I know, just hate crap weapons!). They don't have to be in the same mode at the same time either. Sometimes their walking seems to synchronize but not always. They will interrupt each other when talking, haven't heard them say the same thing at the same time yet. Their stats are the same though. Would it help to get their ID's?

Does this help? Of course her voice is the same for each of them (thank goodness!). Also I use NMM to log into steam. Attachments:

It's really a safer practice to always save to a new slot. The benefit is the ability to recover from problems. If you're worried about disk space, you can periodically delete old saves quickly in Windows Explorer. But my save-games are only about 12MB each, so they don't really use much space.
You can try removing Vilja and doing a series of clean saves, making sure she's no longer in your game. Then re-install Vilja and start her quests from the beginning. However, there's no guarantee this will work.
It may be most prudent to simply start a new game, always using new save-game slots. If you delete all your save-games from the Saves folder (or move them to a backup folder), a new game will start with slot 001. Also never load from an auto-save ... they have been known to corrupt games. In fact, you can disable auto-save in the game options.

Sounds reasonable! I will disable my auto save function and only use new save slots. Worth trying, Thank you!

On one more observation, I noticed that which ever Vilja I took with me on a quest, the other one would comment on it as well. As if they were sharing a common awareness. Thank you to all who commented on my post!

Well... to be honest, I was afraid to mess with the existing game and reluctant to start over ,so I kept both Vilja's until I finished the main quest, a few minor side quest and Vilja's quest. Wow! it got intense and kept me riveted as the events unfolded! Kudo's to the Vilja team! I couldn't imagine playing Skyrim without her! Thank you all! Graykin
