Posted by: Dragon Wench Post Posted: 21 Jun 2009 02:29 pm Post subject: Mashti and the Cavern (yes.. I know... again..) OK, I'm beginning to feel like a complete idiot... Very Happy
I've played through the Julan mod before... and I have searched through this forum to see if anybody else has asked the same question..
Seems people have asked, but I'm still not getting anywhere.
*When I go to the Cavern of the Incarnate, I'm told I need to do something regarding Mashti. *I've already rescued Shani and she's in the healer's tent recovering, which I gather she's supposed to be doing. *I've spoken to Mashti about her past, and gotten to the point where she no longer wants to discuss being an exile because it is painful. (both with and without Julan there, and I have a high disposition with her) *I have spoken with the Urshilaku wise woman, and she has remarked that Julan looks like Mashti, despite not being blood. However, I get no journal updates (her disposition is 80, and I've tried this both with Julan present and not) *I have spoken with the scout Rakeem, and gotten as far as his telling me that there was no marriage involved in the situation, but then he says that it is a private matter.. I have his disposition at 96..
I have this feeling I'm missing something obvious, but at this point I think I'm out of ideas.. and I'm also wondering if there could be some kind of conflict since I have quite a few mods, here is my mod list:

Posted by: Helvorix Post Posted: 23 Jun 2009 05:55 am Post subject: The sight of blood makes Julan sick I'm having a problem with Julan and Combat Enhanced, whenever Julan enters combat he uses the choke sound file from CE instead of the default attacking sound files. I have no idea how that happened, since the choke file is in it's own separate folder and I've been using these two mods together for ages and never had a problem before. Can you help me out? The sound of Julan gagging every time we get into a fight is driving me nuts. ------------------------------------- Posted by: Kateri Post Posted: 26 Jun 2009 06:21 am Post subject: I don't know, sorry - you could load up both mods in the CS and try to see how they are conflicting in the dialogue sound entries. I'm sure I've heard of people using CE with Julan before, though, and I've not had this reported. ------------------------------------- * Posted by: Helvorix Post Posted: 08 Jul 2009 07:01 pm Post subject: I was afraid I may have to open the CS; I find the thing overwhelming and terrifying. Kateri will probably be able to give you a better solution, but here's a few to try: 1) The fix suggested by Neko here The id for Shani appears to be KS_Shani, so it should be KS_Shani->PositionCell ... etc However, as the telepathy ring isn't retrieving her, this may also fail. 2) The long thread here covering the testing of an npc who sometimes disappeared - melian suggested some console commands which helped to find where he had disappeared to. In particular, "KS_Shani-> GetPos x" should return her position on the x axis (similarly GetPos y and GetPos z for y and z axes). 3) A variant on the Neko fix: "KS_Shani->PositionCell 0 0 0 0 wilderness" followed by using the teleport ring. I've had some success with this in similar circumstances. Hope these help Loriel ------------------------------------- Posted by: Kateri Post Posted: 03 Sep 2009 11:14 am Post subject: I think if you ask Gunta in the trader's yurt where she is, she ought to appear in the healer's yurt. * ------------------------------------- Posted by: amuletts Post Posted: 03 Sep 2009 03:11 pm Post subject: thanks Kateri, I thought I'd asked everyone in Ahemmusa camp but I must have missed Gunta. Ok, so I'm not quite sure if this is supposed to be what happens but it doesn't seem right. So Julan just disappeared after the Moon & Star, Azura thingy and I went to talk to his mom about it. The door was closed, she was crying, etc and I got a journal entry. I've done the Julan quest before so I remembered how to do this. So I went back to the Ahemmusa Camp but Shani was NOT in the healer's tent and as far as I could see, she was not anywhere in the camp. What do I do? How can I progress on?? Thanks! ------------------------------------- Posted by: Kateri Post Posted: 31 Oct 2009 05:56 am Post subject: Was she there before? I mean, I assume you left her there after her cave ordeal.
Try talking to Gunta in the trader's yurt about Shani, that should reset her position.

Posted by: farengoth Post Posted: 20 Mar 2010 07:22 pm Post subject: Can a removed Julan duplicate cause problems down the road? I have been noticing slightly odd behavior from Julan for a little while, and recently discovered that he had a duplicate. So I used Wrye Mash to clean my save, which removed my Julan from the game, then used the telepathy ring and had him teleport to me. The new Julan had his original gear and attributes, though his skills were exactly as I had trained them. He also had low disposition towards me. I used the console to give him all his gear back, I rested which caused his attributes to return to what they should be, and modded his disposition back up. Everything now seems right- his dialogue is exactly as it should be for where I am in the quest, and there does not seem to be any abnormal behavior. The question is, have I totally fixed the problem, or will this cause further problems in the future? If so, how bad will they be, and will the be fixable? Also, what causes cloning like this in the first place? Is there a surefire way to prevent it? If not, how can I detect it earlier? ------------------------------------- Posted by: melian Post Posted: 20 Mar 2010 09:18 pm Post subject: Re: Can a removed Julan duplicate cause problems down the ro Not sure if it will cause problems with Julan later - but if it does I expect they'd be fixable. To answer your other questions though:
Detecting is pretty simple: open the console, click on your companion and type "ORI" (sans quotes) and hit enter. ORI stands for "object reference info". If it says they're from any mod other than the one they're really from, you have a problem. You can also find out by using Wrye Mash's "repair all" on your save: if it says it removed a companion as an orphaned ref, then it's already happened.
Prevention is more complex...
First, do you have the Morrowind Code Patch installed, with the relevant fixes enabled? That's probably the most important thing.
Second, don't ever add or remove mods that load earlier than companions (or any important NPC that's going to change cells a lot). The code patch should help with this if you really need to do it, but it's still safer not to.
As a general rule: if you're going to remove a mod from a running game, then unless that mod is last in your load order, you should replace it with another mod set to the same date stamp (use Wrye Mash). If you add a mod, it should be last in your load order. Better not to do either if you can avoid it though.
Also: Don't ever change the date stamp on a mod that's in use in your game. Wrye Mash's "lock times" feature really helps with this. ------------------------------------- Posted by: Kateri Post Posted: 21 Mar 2010 01:53 am Post subject: You should be OK now, so long as you don't move Julan in the modlist again - Wot Melian Said, basically. * ------------------------------------- Posted by: farengoth Post Posted: 24 Mar 2010 02:08 pm Post subject: Quote: don't ever add or remove mods that load earlier than companions
Is it dangerous to add an esp to my data files folder even if I don't actually activate it? ------------------------------------- Posted by: candesco Post Posted: 24 Mar 2010 06:57 pm Post subject: If it isn't activated then not, because your load order remains the same. But as soon as you activate it then your savegame will be affected cause the load order is changed. Actually it is best to sort out mods you want to use before you start a new game. Updating a mod won't cause problems though, if done correctly. And pluginless mods won't cause problems at all. ------------------------------------- Posted by: Emma Post Posted: 25 Mar 2010 01:13 am Post subject: ...and, of course, the last golden rule. Make a backup of your last save before you start adding/removing any mods. Then you can always revert to it if things won't work the way you wanted. _________________ Please visit my Elder Scrolls site

Posted by: farengoth Post Posted: 05 Aug 2010 04:49 pm Post subject: Two possible problems with Julan I have been playing and loving the Julan mod for a while on my current character. I have just gotten to what I think is the end of his quest- we've retrieved his father's bones, the wise woman says he will be a great ashkan someday, and Shani now has companion options. It seems like the next thing to do is get declared Hortator and Nerevarine, and finish up the main quest. However, two things are still bothering me:
1: Mashti does not seem to have any dialogue concerning the fact that she is no longer exiled. When I speak to her, with or without Julan, she tells me it doesn't matter whether I kill her or not. When I mention Julan she says something about him being gone from her. A few other topics seem to suggest that she knows that Ahmabi is dead, but nothing changes.
2: I have still not encountered any hint of a romance possibility with Julan. Some other posts I have read on these forums as well as some poking around in the CS suggest that something should have happened by now. I got the 'personal question' topic while walking under the stars, and I thought that would open it up, but all Julan did was give an amulet and tell me I was a good person. I would be quite disappointed if I didn't get to experience his romance options at all.
I'm not sure if these are bugs, or if I've missed a conversation that I need to have, or if I just need to play further. I should note that I am running LGNPC Pax Redoran, which I know has some conflicts, but I was very careful to make sure I did everything I had to before entering the cavern of the incarnate.
I've got backed up saves from every major stage of the quest, so I can do things over if need be, but I'm hoping I've just missed something obvious. I'd appreciate any help I can get! ------------------------------------- Posted by: Kateri Post Posted: 05 Aug 2010 11:56 pm Post subject: Re: Two possible problems with Julan SPOILERY, obvs.

She should have a "concluding" conversation with Julan after the Ahmabi business is over.
If you open the console and type: GetJournalIndex "KS_JulanFather"
...you should get the result of 130, if you finished everything at the camp fully, but Mashti should have more dialogue for any values over 80, so I doubt that's the problem. It might be that Julan's not being recognised as present, since he needs to be. You can check that with the console by typing: * sv
...and finding the line "j_close" - it should be 1.
If you could check those values and let me know, that'd help! Smile
(NB if the console codes don't work, it's 'cause I have apparently forgotten all my MW scripting. Sorry! Ask me to recheck 'em!)

The romance starts during the first visit to his mother, so I guess you missed it, yeah. Sad Did you get the scene in the middle of the night, when he talks about the dream he had? There are a few different ways that scene can play out, depending on how your character responds, but at least a couple of them can lead to things getting interesting.

Hi there, i have a bit of a problem i have come back from the Cavern of Incarnate and now i have the quest to find Julan. Apparently he is in Ranyabi Egg mine the only problem is that i can't find it. I have looked everywhere and have spent about 5 realy time hours trying to find it and now i am really annoyed. Does anyone know of any land marks i could co-ordinate by or does anyone have a print screen of the map that shows where it is?

Unfortunately I don't have the Julan mod loaded at present, so I can't check, but I know I had similar problems both times I looked for it.
I presume that you are looking roughly northwest from the Cavern of the Incarnate. By that stage of the game I had something enchanted with constant-effect levitation, which made struggling over the various mountains much easier, but I still wandered around for quite a while before I struck lucky.
Sorry I can't give more help.

ok thanks, i did a levitation spell and stuff. Yeah i was looking west of the Cave of Incarnate and west from the other cave on the same pat of the cave of incarnate. Am i heading in the right direction? i seem to be heading towards Kogorun and Venalvayron a lot is it near either of this or am i going in the complete wrong direction?

Sounds like you are looking in the right area. The only description I recall finding is at morningstarlady.livejournal.com/238549.html and using the map at www.uesp.net/maps/mwmap/mwmap.shtml?centeron=Dun-Ahhe I think it should be northwest of Cavern of the Incarnate and west of Dun-Ahhe, and not very far away. However, as indicated in the Lady Morningstar story, it isn't obvious and takes a while to find. I've now re-loaded the mod to check, and can confirm the directions - travel slightly west of northwest from the Cavern of the Incarnate (which takes you over a few mountains, and near/over the small Ashlander Camp mentioned). Just before the ground drops into a north-south valley (foyada?), you should reach the entrance door to the egg mine, on the south side of a hill/mountain top. and with a few bittergreen leaves around it. Hope that helps Loriel
