Okeys got help to this site from Canadian Ice & Howndog's Place on the issue so i moved constance and moved her into Caldera. Sofar so good Very Happy
my question is that since Death's Doorstep conflicts with Constance, I am wondering should you loose constance and get directed back to Genisis would that make a mess of her scripts once again?
I have nooooo clue about scripting so im wondering if one can setup the script in a way that you can find her in caldera and not genisis or would that open up another whole can of worms lol.
In any case Constance ROCKS!!! i want my 300 kwama eggs omlets for all lol
thank you all Smile and keep up the fantastic work ! ------------------------------------- Posted by: Kateri Post Posted: 26 Jan 2007 03:31 am Post subject: Should be fine - if Constance gets lost, she is told to reappear in the Tradehouse in Gnisis. As this is an interior cell, it's unaffected by the changes DD makes to Gnisis. So ought to be fine. Wink

Well, I checked every topic about Constance and so far, only saw some about her dying and the glitchs it creates later, or Yanna's hideout. So far, I didn't yet meet this Yanna, just got the kwama eggs event (huh huh good one ) and we left Gnisis to find this ... Camembert guy (rofl hey who chose those names because well, I know what this one means..funny ;p) So the only directions I got was ... Balgoth was dragged to the east, towards the coast... That's pretty vague but I don't mind a bit of searching. Thing is this guy just got attacked so coast..east... that means the other side of the continent??? Because the only place with water I can see from where Camembert is is a small lake so that wouldn't count as coast??? There's a closer coast but it's due west...so ...so far I'm a bit wondering where to look at. Don't even need the exact location but a small hint would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work all of you, and thanks in advance to whoever will be able to help me Wink ------------------------------------- Posted by: Seib Post Posted: 16 Apr 2007 12:28 am Post subject: Just found the grotto, as I decided to search the whole area east of Camembert. Had I been on earlier I would have posted a reply. Oh well: all's well that ends well. P.S. - What is ironic is this: the author of The Constance plugin is not a native English speaker either. Emma is from Sweden if I recall correctly. _________________ Meanwhile, at the dance party ------------------------------------- Posted by: Seib Post Posted: 16 Apr 2007 12:48 pm Post subject: No biggie, as I said, since some glitches occur it's often hard to find out if you're searching at the wrong place or if something wrong occured. I had a few of them, one happening to kumiko's quest on another toon. Since I restarted I'll check if the same problem occurs again ; in gnisis, I'm supposed to find some assassin and besides i checked the whole town, never found him. Will see how it goes this time. Using Dremora markinaz plug-in, the first time, the chest was empty...no armor and the companion was naked when I first met it. Still quest was completed. The last times I used this mod, the npc was dressed, the chest was full of custom parts (yay!!) but since then, the npc is stuck on some dialog and quest won't end...oh well, can't have anything heh? Wink But for Constance, I checked every single post and I think a faq won't be needed. Can't wait to play Oblivion with a few mods (ended it in every way possible on 360 but consoles are bleh for mods Razz ) See you later everyone

Constance requested a "chat" but there isn't chat in her dialogue box. I thought a change might help and we returned to Ald Rhun after finishing up business at the Urshilaku Camp. Constance still wants to chat but still no dialogue. The "chat"is probably inconsequential in itself but the topic is locked, How do I get chat into her dialogue so we can finish? There is something that seems to work when everything else fails.
Leave Constance behind for +72 game hours and then return to her. Then she should be 're-set' back to normal. _________________ Please visit my Elder Scrolls site

What can be done about this ? ------------------------------------- Posted by: melian Post Posted: 25 Jun 2007 07:39 pm Post subject: Re: Constance wants to talk. You could try opening the console and typing: Code: AddTopic "-chat..." then press enter, and talk to her again. If the topic still doesn't appear but she still wants to chat, I guess something's gone wrong somewhere... Actually, looking at the mod in the CS I doubt that's the problem. Did you talk to her again after she wanted to chat? The "-chat..." topic might not appear the first time.
If that doesn't work - could you post your mod list? Posted by: Falc Post Posted: 18 Aug 2007 06:56 am Post subject: Constance question/ problem I forgot to put constance into wander mode when i added a new mod, recently i've been getting alot of CTDs, could this be the cause? If so, what can i do about it? Do i have to put all companions into wander mode when i add new mods? Or is it just Constance ------------------------------------- Posted by: Emma Post Posted: 18 Aug 2007 11:04 am Post subject: If Constance not in wandermode is the reason for your CTDs, they should appear instantly when you added the new mod, i.e. you shouldn't be able to load your saved game at all. In that case the easy solution is to disable the added mod(s), load the saved game and put Constance in wander mode. Then activate the new mods again.
The reason that you can get instant CTDs in cases like this is that her teleportation script is running if she is not in wander mode, and if the load order changes that could cause problems. _________________ Please visit my Elder Scrolls site ------------------------------------- Posted by: morovir Post Posted: 23 Aug 2007 12:12 pm Post subject: Why doesn't this affect other companion mods? No, Constance is unique Wink.
The 'problem' is her teleportscript, which is set up in a way that hasn't really been used that much. Shortly after Grumpy died, CdCooley introduced a new teleport system, which works on all companions and doesn't need a special teleport script running for each companion. I didn't want to change anything in Constance, I kept her the way Grumpy and I made her.
In other mods made previous of CdCooley's teleport script system, I have been using a ring instead, with a one-time running script to teleport the companion. This doesn't cause any problem if you add a new mod. But the companion will teleport after you rather than with you. Finally, with Laura and other companions based on The Other Felix scripiting, the setup is completely differently and the scripts only runs once, causing no problems when adding new mods _________________ Please visit my Elder Scrolls site

Posted by: Forest Stalker Post Posted: 22 Aug 2007 12:34 pm Post subject: Yanna's Hideout - can't get in I just rescued Constance's uncle and the last journal entry for this quest says that we have no idea where to look for Yanna.
I had found the hideout quite some time ago but can't get in so I am guessing I am missing a journal entry or something. From what I have read in search results, Constance is supposed to say something about this in Caldera or Balmora. I've been walking around with her for the past hour and keep clicking on her but she hasn't said anything to move the quest along.
Is there something I missed? I'd like to go on to the next phase of the quest. _________________ Lady MorningStar - The Archer's Tale ------------------------------------- Posted by: Joe Post Posted: 23 Aug 2007 11:02 am Post subject: Forest Stalker - took me a few levels/time. She mentions after the rescue, that the uncle recevied "news" on where to find Yanna ... I know, we found this place early on Smile
After that prompt, click on Yanna in the dialogue options. Constance has a scheme to ge the bow back etc...
You can then enter the house. ------------------------------------- Posted by: Forest Stalker Post Posted: 24 Aug 2007 05:42 am Post subject: Ah, alright. So just keep dragging her around and eventually she mentions it. For some reason I thought I was at the end of the timed chats. I should have guessed that there was more to come. Embarassed
Thanks. Smile _________________ Lady MorningStar - The Archer's Tale ------------------------------------- Posted by: candesco Post Posted: 17 Jan 2010 09:10 am Post subject: A huge kick i know.
Constance mentions in my game about the letter she received from her uncle when i'm in Sadrith * Mora. To be more precise; in front of the gateway, on the side of the docks. This happened to me twice. One time after visiting Zergonipal and returning from Vos to Sadrith Mora she got the letter. Now in my current game i travelled by guild guide from Caldera to Sadrith Mora and then walked to the gateway. Once i got through that large round door (with the house telvanni logo on it) and talked to Constance she first wanted to chat. The chat got about how she's being afraid of the dark. Then after that and when talking to Constance again she received the letter from her uncle. So it seems Constance starts with the conversation when you're in Sadrith Mora. Caldera doesn't trigger it in my game. ------------------------------------- Posted by: jgf Post Posted: 18 Jan 2010 04:34 pm Post subject: I don't think location plays a part. Eventually Constance will talk about Yanna again and tell you of a 'plan', until that happens you can't enter Yanna's hideout. ------------------------------------- Posted by: candesco Post Posted: 02 Feb 2010 01:54 pm Post subject: Location plays a part yes. Places like Vivec, Ebonheart, Dagon Fel, Vos, Khuul, Red Mountain and so on don't have the effect that you would receive the quest. Even Caldera, which is mentioned here, doesn't do the trick. Constance will disappear after you talk about the letter she received from her uncle, so it's impossible that constance will talk again about yanna. After constance teleports herself to gnisis you can enter the hideout.

Trying to get Constance her bow. Ok, we can't harm Yanna.
I tried joining = nope I tried being her servant = nope I looked for a key to the door = could not find it
I did notice the rug shaking ?
Taunt = nope Bribe = nope ... never got above 38
Looted her home = hoping she would attack(... self defense) = nope
What am I missing ?
After all that, I contacted Constance via the amulet. She said, "follow Yanna's orders" ... ummm, she won't talk to me ?
So, I'm just standing outside the hideout Smile I don't want all the quest info, just how do I proceed.
Thanks. ------------------------------------- Posted by: Emma Post Posted: 23 Aug 2007 01:19 pm Post subject: Have you tried raising Yanna's disposition? Smile

Tried "Add Topic" = nope Sent her to Gnisis/Tradehouse ... Balmora/Eight Plates ... stuck her in Lucky's Lockup Went outside Balmora and spun days(..summon anything) ... from 120-150 Went to her after 4 days. That's roughly 7 "bug periods" ... no chat option Am I missing something ? ... not wait long enough ?
Happened right after she stole those shortswords and she added a shirt and skirt
Don't know what to do ? Does she add more armor ... braces/gauntlets (anyone have the console cheat codes) Is there more to "Constance" from this point on ? Should I switch to a new companion ?
Been hammering away for 1hr 30min ... pretty whooped Smile
Have to take a rest break = physically disabled Will check back tonight. Hope someone has a fix.
If nothing else, I'd at least like to have Constance in her full "gear". I guess I could pass on chats ? I need her ranged skills ... or I'll have to go use another ranged companion Only one I have installed is Arya. Growing fond of Constance = hate to lose her But, I'm stuck Sad
Any ideas/tips/help would be greatly appreciated. I could go way back to a prior save, would that help ? ... not crazy about losing all the hours of gamplay, but if that's neccesary, I'll do it Or, is her character so loaded with topics/info, it pushed the chat option out of her dialogue options ... not tech savvy; just supposing ------------------------------------- Posted by: Emma Post Posted: 25 Aug 2007 02:36 pm Post subject: do you remember what her last chat was about? this can be fixed by a console command, but would then need to know what she has already been talking about. _________________ Please visit my Elder Scrolls site ------------------------------------- Posted by: Joe Post Posted: 25 Aug 2007 06:06 pm Post subject: Hi Emma - well, we got up early to tackle this problem Smile I'm trying to think back. Put these on her. All of a sudden the Kahjits attacked from behind my Balmora home(...Dave Humphrey Furniture mod). Killed them. Few days went by(... had to spin some days to sell loot) and Constance wanted to chat. Then no chat option. Best as I can remember; sorry.
Was spinning days ... trying to reset the Creeper's cash * Maybe I spun them too quickly ?
Not sure why or if I "hit the 72 bug" ... would she mention I was gone too long ... would the game tell me Seems to have worked for others = not sure why I can't get her to reset
I'd like to see her finale "look" Smile Plus, whatever trouble she gets me into ... just started questing ... was optimizing my build = long way to go
Thank you for the help. Not sure if my information is specific enough ?

I hope it's alright to place it here instead of starting a new thread.
We managed to get Constance's bow and I see that the "Constance" quest is still open in my character's journal. Is there more to her quest after getting her ivy bow back? _________________ Lady MorningStar - The Archer's Tale ------------------------------------- Posted by: Joe Post Posted: 03 Sep 2007 09:32 am Post subject: Forest Stalker - well, I tell you what I can; it's limited. The chat bug hit me twice, and the second time I had deleted a save prior = so I had to abandon the character Sad (physically disabled ... not a good gamer = I save "often" ... so I have to delete saves, sometimes in mid-game)
I went from that point(... guessing 110 game days ?) to 150+ days ... that's roughly 40 game days In that time there were no more quest involved chats ... chats involved: she got me into trouble once more and found more parts to her outfit
I wish I could be of more help. 40 game days seems like alot ? ... I've had journal entries stay open after finishing(... I recall the Umbra main game side quest)
Good Luck with Constance Smile

I don't know much about the 72 hour bug, but i tried leaving her alone for 73, it didn't seem to effect anything, but maybe that was because i still had her in my advnaced teleportation mod list.

this could be the problem. As well as Vormegil's suggestion. If her weapons don't work, seh won't need them.
An easier way than leaving her behind for 72 hours might be this: * call up the console, click on her so that her name shows up at the top of the console. type:
startcombat player
she should now instantly attack. you. Then, call up console again, type
stopcombat
this normally resets most problems with companions. But do check her weapons first - if they are broken she certainly won't use them. _________________ Please visit my Elder Scrolls site ------------------------------------- Posted by: Falc Post Posted: 23 Dec 2007 03:54 am Post subject: yep that was it Very Happy her bow needed repairing thanks

Need Constance help First, it's good to finally be a part of the site after playing Morrowind and using other Emma mods for so long! I have a problem. I have the Constance mod and it has run PERFECTLY...until now. === spoiler below here===
At the point where we went to rescue her uncle, I have picked the lock to his cell, talked to him, talked to her, etc etc...but she still frets about "I hope my uncle's not dead!" etc etc. like the quest just won't advance! I've done/killed everything else in the cave so I know I didn't miss anything... unless there was something in the chest after I defeated the huge nix hound. I couldn't pick that lock (not quite high enough level to do it) I'm pretty attached to my companion and we were really having fun but now I'm stuck!!! Oh noez! d'oh! Is there maybe a console command to use to get the quest moving forward or a trick to do or something? Thanks so much!

I'm not sure... did you use the console while playing w/ constance? ------------------------------------- Posted by: NismoTyler Post Posted: 03 Feb 2008 08:56 pm Post subject: If I did it was never directly anything to do with the Constance mod at all. I'm pretty old fashioned when it comes to RPing. If I even think about the console while I'm playing it feels like it takes away from the experience, but I know how to use it and stuff and it's saved me a few times. I didn't know if there was maybe a console command to "complete" the certain script that we're stuck on or something....it's weird, like I said, everything was going smooth with no problems up until unlocking Balgoth's cell and talking to both of them. Constance still says something like "We'd better sneak...it's creepy in here...I hope uncle Balgoth's not dead.." etc etc as her greeting, and there are no options in either of their dialogs to "push" things along. Just a dead end you know? Thanks for the reply! _________________ Life hands me lemons, I make beef stew! ------------------------------------- Posted by: theodore95 Post Posted: 04 Feb 2008 05:34 am Post subject: sorry, but i'm not sure...
I played that part long ago. If not, maybe you don't have any Intervention scrolls? (There is at least one in the cave) If yes, did Constance tell you about Yanna? Then the quest is all right I think.
IIRC, you don't have to open his cell, just have an Intervention scroll on your inventory, which Balgoth takes & uses automatically. And the huge Nix-Hound is there only as a "surprise" I think, the chest has only gems inside (I think, I ignored that part on my last characters but that only proves that it is not an essential part).
Hope that helps. ------------------------------------- Posted by: NismoTyler Post Posted: 04 Feb 2008 05:24 pm Post subject: I haven't tried intervention scrolls yet. I have none in my inventory. - Use a Divine Intervention scroll and not an Almsivi, I could be wrong but I think he specifically needs a DI. - Use a save from before speaking to him for the first time. - If possible, replay the cave (it's not too hard anyway). - Did you speak to his friend outside or did you go strait for the cave? ------------------------------------- Posted by: melian Post Posted: 05 Feb 2008 01:57 pm Post subject: Did you get the topic "bad trouble" added when you talked to Balgoth? If not, try this in the console: Code: AddTopic "bad trouble" * then talk to him again and choose that topic.
If that doesn't work, try this: Code: GetJournalIndex AA_Conbow It should return 40, 45 or 50. If it's 40 you need to talk to Balgoth about "bad trouble", if it's 45 you need to find a Divine Intervention scroll for him, if it's 50 you need to get Constance to make one, and if it's none of the above there's something wrong - if you post the index it might help figure it out. ------------------------------------- Posted by: NismoTyler Post Posted: 05 Feb 2008 09:12 pm Post subject: Melian - great idea. Just today I went ahead and started a new game; same mods. Clean slate. I got ALL THE WAY to the same point that I got stuck on last time, and guess what, stuck again. When I spoke with him, he had no Bad Trouble topic, so I brought up the console, and typed: addtopic "bad trouble". HERE'S THE KICKER. It didn't add the topic. I'm about to try the other option you gave me. I'm going to PM you the index.
****UPDATE****The index is 30.00 something's wrong. WTF now... _________________ Life hands me lemons, I make beef stew! ------------------------------------- Posted by: DAYKS11 Post Posted: 06 Feb 2008 01:40 am Post subject: Hmmm... the only thing I can think of is there might be a conflict between the Constance mod and another plugin. Not sure how that would change the index in the quest though... but I've never modded before so I could be wrong. _________________ Yay for Morrowind!!... and also Oblivion!! ------------------------------------- Posted by: melian Post Posted: 06 Feb 2008 02:14 pm Post subject: I doubt it's a conflict (though with MW you never know). You should have got index 40 when you talked to Claude Camembert - the entry goes: Quote: Balgoth has been kidnapped! Claude Camembert told us that a couple of bad guys dragged him away to the east towards the coast. He heard them mention a place called Junmasir, that's probably where they went.
You can probably fix this by giving yourself the JE if you don't have it: Code: journal AA_Conbow 40 - that should give you the above entry, and then Balgoth should talk to you about "bad trouble" (I'm pretty sure it's filtered for the journal, so you should get the right greeting when the journal entry is given).
If that doesn't work, let us know what happened - if necessary you can console around that bit of the quest altogether. ------------------------------------- Posted by: NismoTyler Post Posted: 06 Feb 2008 09:23 pm Post subject: Okay, last night I did this:
SetJournalIndex "AA_conbow" 40
And it added the topic "bad trouble" to Balgoth. Everything has been smooth since then. Hopefully no more snags will happen. Just for this reason alone, could someone tell me what I should do to find Yanna? Should I go ask around and look or wait for Constance to say something or what? I ask only because I need to know if the mod is running ok now... _________________ Life hands me lemons, I make beef stew! ------------------------------------- Posted by: melian Post Posted: 07 Feb 2008 03:30 am Post subject: Has Constance asked you to find Yanna? If not then wait until she does (you should get a journal entry that starts "Constance has talked me into going to the West Gash Region to find Yanna...").
At least, I'm pretty sure that's right... I haven't played MW in months (been modding instead Embarassed ). ------------------------------------- Posted by: NismoTyler Post Posted: 08 Feb 2008 05:09 pm Post subject: Oh ok. Thanks buddy. All she's done is asked me if I would help find her after Balgoth told the story about the bow. I said I'd help. We'll see I guess Smile Thanks again. _________________ Life hands me lemons, I make beef stew!

Posted by: DragonLS Post Posted: 05 Feb 2008 05:51 pm Post subject: Constance seems to corrupt my saves from time to time... At first, I wasn't sure of this, since I'm running several mods, and I figured it was the Lokken expansion for Solstheim. I did a few tests, and it's definately coming from Constance.
When loading my save, it either does these 2 things:
1. The save loads midway, and my game just crashes.
or
2. I get errors saying recall, or aa companion or some crap, aka Constance disappears from my side. If I go to Gnisis and ask where Constance is, my game crashes (I get a very rapid error sound, and I just assume my game crashes)
Now I run game mods like Morrowind Comes Alive, Slave Mod, etc. But I'm starting to think it's from the quivers I equip on her. Although I am not sure. (they're from the Suran Archery House mod)
Also, the crashes do not occur right away, it seems to take some time before it happens.
By the way, I'm using the most up-to-date version of Constance. ------------------------------------- Posted by: ]V[ormegil Post Posted: 06 Feb 2008 08:37 am Post subject: I remember having a similar issue. The game crashed and my saves wouldn't load. It was a mod incobatibility, because after deactivating a mod everything went fine. Maybe posting your modlist will help. ------------------------------------- Posted by: osiris Post Posted: 06 Feb 2008 11:50 am Post subject: I don't believe is a mod incompatibility, I had corrupted save games several times and my load list and load order were just fine. The only thing that I may suggest you is reload from a previous save. _________________ The Chieftain's Chambers Get yourself Tamriel Rebuilt Map 1 v2.0 + Map 2 v1.0 in just one download NOW! ------------------------------------- Posted by: DragonLS Post Posted: 06 Feb 2008 12:03 pm Post subject: I have no problem with reverting to an original save. But these errors only occur when I have Constance with me, (If I say, start at the beginning, Constance doesn't crash with me right away.) After being with her for a bit, the saves I input become corrupted instead. This has happened to every file and new game that has occured to me. (Over 6 so far)
I just want to know how these errors can be prevented. Morrowind is up-to-date, (With every expansion)

I tried with both an existing game and a new one and every time I went to Gnisis the game crashed and saves made after I visited Gnisis where corrupted.
That been said, that happened six months ago and real life interfered so I couldn't check the forums about it. I just deactivated, started a new game and everything went fine. Then I forgot all about it until now.
I see now that you have two Death's Doorstep in your list. I can't remember if this is normal (and can't check it, I'm at work). Maybe this is your problem (and mine)? ------------------------------------- Posted by: DragonLS Post Posted: 07 Feb 2008 12:12 pm Post subject: You see 2 Death's Doorsteps because the author released an add-on for it. (Basically an expansion)
And I was thinking that when I first saw the corruptions. But Constance isn't at the exact location of Death's Doorstep, I've already checked. Both, Death's Doorstep and Constance work fine together. Just to say it further, I ran both of them at the same time, and both Death's Doorstep and Constance were at their respectful locations without errors. ------------------------------------- Posted by: osiris Post Posted: 07 Feb 2008 01:01 pm Post subject: What's that "AMRP 1.2.esp"? _________________ The Chieftain's Chambers Get yourself Tamriel Rebuilt Map 1 v2.0 + Map 2 v1.0 in just one download NOW! ------------------------------------- Posted by: DragonLS Post Posted: 07 Feb 2008 01:58 pm Post subject: a Magicka Regeneration plugin. It allows me to select the speed of how much Magicka I gain per minute, and a Magicka bonus of my choosing at a set number every level up, depending on my Intelligence stat. Of course, once I select my settings, I cannot edit them unless I start a new game.
EDIT: Some of the mods I use go over the Leveled setting of gameplay. (ie. Morrowind Comes Alive), but that just gives me more of a challenge, so I can think strategically. Sometimes I need mana just * to survive. ------------------------------------- Posted by: melian Post Posted: 08 Feb 2008 05:27 pm Post subject: I'd suggest trying Wrye Mash's "renumber refs" on Constance and probably Death's Doorstep and any other esps that modify the Gnisis game cells. You *must* start a new game afterwards for this to work, though. See the Mash docs for how. ------------------------------------- Posted by: osiris Post Posted: 09 Feb 2008 01:11 am Post subject: DragonLS wrote: a Magicka Regeneration plugin.
Can you post the link to the download page for this plugin? So I will be able to create a new load list with all the mods you listed, do a brief playtest and post my final thoughts about your issue as soon as free time permits. Though most of the mods you are running are indeed very basic ones (except some of them, but they are just a few), and you say that Constance runs fine with Death's Doorstep; so I still believe that the issue don't depends on the plugins but by Morrowind itself; which is, as we already know, not a perfect game.

I suggest everyone to be very careful with Mash's 'Renumber Refs' function though, as it's an advanced function and honestly I never had the need to use it. If I have issues with a mod, what I always prefer to do is have a look at its records scripts and whatnot in the CS and fix the bug by myself, which is not difficult to do. _________________ The Chieftain's Chambers Get yourself Tamriel Rebuilt Map 1 v2.0 + Map 2 v1.0 in just one download NOW! ------------------------------------- Posted by: melian Post Posted: 09 Feb 2008 02:55 pm Post subject: The only way you could fix a ref conflict in TESCS would be by cleaning the entire cell out of one of the mods, or at least deleting some references. Saving in TESCS is what tends to cause the problem in the first place, because of the way it numbers the refs.
The "renumber refs" is mostly an "advanced function" because you have to keep the refs with the same numbers while your game is in progress - which is, I admit, a PITA. The other alternatives would be to avoid playing conflicting mods together, or manually renumber the problem refs in EE (though with the latter you still have to keep the numbers the same). ------------------------------------- Posted by: osiris Post Posted: 10 Feb 2008 01:57 am Post subject: melian wrote: The other alternatives would be to avoid playing conflicting mods together
Yeah, infact I always look for potential conflicts between mods before playing my game; making the conflicting mods compatible by myself if possible, or zapping the conflicting mod(s) if not. Smile). I had no idea what the problem was but any time I was in Gnisis, or close by, my save would become corrupt. Funny enough, the latest mod I installed was Death's Doorstep. I guess you were spot on. I haven't found any reference to this error so, like the OP I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has any idea how to get these to work together. And if not, I'd love an explanation as to why something like this might happen in an entire town. Quite a bit conflict...bigger than I've seen. (Through no fault of anyone in particular....I am just genuinely curious as to what exactly could cause this).
Many thanks for such an ingenious mod...If it comes down to one or the other, well, Death's Doorstep will have to go bye bye because I couldn't play without this one. ------------------------------------- Posted by: melian Post Posted: 25 Feb 2008 04:53 am Post subject: Hi Smile
If it's a reference conflict you're having (it sounds like it probably is) - it's a difficult issue to explain. There's an article here that goes into it in depth - what happens and what to do about it - it's pretty involved but it's very useful.
I'll try to give a simple explanation...
When a mod is saved, the references (the objects in the gameworld) are given numbers: the "reference number/ID" or "object index". But these numbers aren't always unique, they're only unique within the mod, and the Construction Set always starts with the same reference number and always numbers references in the same order: so if something moves to another cell (as companions tend to do) it could eaily encounter another reference with the same number added by a different mod. Even without moving it's still possible, but since it only tends to cause problems when both references are in a loaded cell, the more the reference moves about the more likely it is to encounter a conflicting reference.
When references conflict, the game can get confused and think they're duplicates of the same thing - so it removes one, or tries to, and if that was a reference with a unique ID used in script (like a companion) - then the script can't find the object it's after and it causes even more problems.
There are also issues with "persistent" and "non-persistent" references, I'm not going to try to explain that part (mostly because I don't really understand it myself Razz ) but you might come across those terms if you research the issue. Some references are automatically persistent (like NPCs), and some can be persistent if they're set up to be (like containers). If a reference is "persistent" it should always be available to scripts, it should always be somewhere in the game - in theory. So that can be part of the problem too.
Hope that made some kind of sense Confused
What you can do about it is either merge the mods, or renumber the references. If you renumber refs, you have to keep them at those numbers while you're playing: if you change the numbers then reload a save it can cause all kinds of chaos, because the save will already contain the old reference numbers. That means no saving in TESCS unless you're about to start a new game. Wrye Mash can renumber all refs in a mod, or you can use MW Enchanted Editor to renumber individual references by hand. The article I linked gives more info, and there's a good section on it in the Wrye Mash docs.

It there any way I can get her back?
I was hoping that if I just went around as usual I'd eventually run across her as I had a similar problem with the witchgirl companion (whom I eventually found in Vivec). However, it seems Constance's 'presence' is felt even when she isn't there! I have been accosted by NPCs claiming she stole something and keep getting sent to jail!
I *think* I have finished all her quests but I'd rather solve her problem than delete her. ------------------------------------- Posted by: blockhead2 Post Posted: 24 Apr 2008 07:37 pm Post subject: You might want to ask around in Gnisis: talk to some NPCs there.
