Remember, to run it at 11:11 AM the first time, so you'll be running it at 11:11 on 11 11. Of course!!!

I heard that some Australian vendors broke street date, so you can already pick it up and play down in Oz. ...I am envious.

Eheh... True. ;D
So, now Skyrim should be finally out for everyone. But to be honest, I'm tempted to wait a bit before purchasing it, to see if any GOTY edition will be released or not... What about you?

I'd rather wait for a GotY version, that way I can be sure to have all of the official patches and expansion packs (DLCs).

I've got it, and am enjoying it so far (only played about an hour!), but it's startling to me what Bethesda native textures and equipment looks like. I've really been spoiled by modded Oblivion.

I've been looking at Vicki's screenshots, and have been drooling like mad on my keyboard. Fully modded, this game is going to rule the RPG universe for a long time.

Must ... wait.

I'm probably going to be getting back into modding, so that'll take up a lot of my time. That and I'm currently playing through The Witcher and I have the sequel staring at me for when I'm done with that. Hopefully by then Mass Effect 3 will be out, so that'll be another game to keep me occupied until Skyrim comes out either in a GotY version or a bundled edition.

For people using tesV.exe to play the game directly without steam involvement, being it for game stability, using the +4Gb RAM patch, or whatever other reason. Don't connect to steam for the current update. The only thing it does is make TesV.exe connect to steam.
You'll need to connect eventually if you wan't to take the real patches when they release, but then in theory they may also fix the actual game bugs avoiding your game working correctly while using steam.
I suggest you to update only after ensuring that the updates will improve things.

I have just started to play Skyrim and so far I am quite impressed. Luck would have it (in a way) that my old system broke down shortly which provided me with the opportunity to update for the new one. So, quite unprepared, I am suddenly able to play Skyrim with full specs ! I have just finished the Bleak Falls Barrow quest and am now suiting up for some heavy-duty exploring of that gorgeous-looking landscape...we will see how it goes, maybe I shall report again when I am a bit further in the story...all the best, meanwhile! It may be a simple silly question, but does anyone know, when in the chronological sequence after the Oblivion crisis Skyrim is set. Some say 200 years after that. But the years in Oblivion show up with about 400 and in Skyrim it must be thirty years after 171, but after the Oblivion crisis relying on all the NPCs are talking. So what's correct?

I do like this game a lot. There is good ties from MW and OB to this game. There is a lot of discussion of what happened in the past and how this affected what is going on right now.
Will be interesting how all of this eventually plays out.
Right now, I am enjoying watching things fly off cliffs and stuff since I finally have the third part of Unrelenting Force. ;D

Block skill working is totally different to what one could expect. Contrarily to what it's written in the skill tree, shield wall perk line did nothing for improving actual blocking. Increasing the skill or using items or potions that supposedly add to the damage reduction of blocking, is equally useless for damage avoiding purposes.
Shield blocks 85% of damage when properly used against an incoming attack, two handed weapons reduce about 50% and both one handed weapons and torches about 33%. There is nothing in this version of the game that can improve this. What the mentioned bonuses do is give you more damage output when power attack shield bashing.
This seem to be intended, as the first level of shield wall improves block in a 20% and the twenty percent of 85% is 17% which would suppose blocking 102% of the damage when using a shield. I don't think they plan to make the shield blocking 100% efficient with the first perk of a group of 5. What I mean is that this didn't seem to be patched.
Additionally, deflect arrows perk is pretty useless as you catch arrows only in very rare occasions. Apparently only the arrows that actually hit the shield collision box are stopped (logic should you not be required to take a perk for that). This may be a bug.
