Skyrim could have higher requirements than Oblivion. On the other hand, Oblivion didn't use properly modern computers technology and Skyrim will be multiplatformed (consoles haven't been upgraded since 2006 if I'm not mistaken). So, it's a bit early to think that your computer won't be able to handle it.

It's probably going to be an XBOX 360 port, so I doubt your computer wouldn't be able to play it, Aidan. You might not be able to play with all of the bells and whistles, but it should at least play at a functional frame rate.

Outdated Technology? I have a laptop running Windows 98SE. That count?
Looking forward to Skyrim.

Another new engine!? NOOOOOOOOO!!! I only recently got a computer that could run Oblivion at a functional frame rate. And then only grudgingly because my old computer died! What do these people think we are, gamer geeks or something!? What, you mean we *are*?Okay, I'm going to hide in a corner - with my outdated technology . Well, if it's got to run on an xbox360 - and hearing all this crap about shoulder buttons you'd think that's the only platform they were releasing on - I think it shouldn't be too bad, requirements-wise. But of course every new game has to have more triangles than the last so an upgrade might not be out of the question. I just hope that one can scale back the graphics to Oblivion-level quality and still enjoy the game.

If I hadn't paid $300 for that ghastly (non-)operating system I'm now using, I'd switch back to 98 right away. It's the computer specs that really matter though. All that RAM and processor and video card stuff - I don't get what it's all about, and I just buy the bare minimum knowing that it will be perfectly adequate for playing a game made all of five years ago.

Same here. Currently I have an Intel Core 2 Duo, Nvidia 9800 GT and 2 GB of RAM, I wonder if that will be enough to run Skyrim...

Well I just happened to check the performance of my rig a few days back on 3DMark06 and it came out 13.6k to 14.8k depending on how much I tweak up the vid card.
I figure even if I get Skyrim, I will wait a bit after it is out just to hear about hardware compatibility.
Currently running a Q9550 @3.4GHz and one tiny 4850 on an aging P35 mobo.
GF1 on CI's forum just built a Sandy Bridge rig with a lone 5870 and he got a whopping 30k on 3DMark06.
Now I can't figure out whether I want to upgrade my processor/mobo/RAM, Hard Disk (which is almost 6 years old), Vid Card, subwoofer, monitor or chair.
I really do need to upgrade my chair. My subwoofer kicks *ss but an upgrade will let me give my subwoofer and old satellites to my wife. Hmmm decisions decisions.

I wouldn't be too worried, you may not be able to play on super-high settings, but you should be able to play at Oblivion levels. Keep in mind, this game is still targeted for the xbox 360 and PS3 - neither of which have improved since Oblivion was released. While the PC version won't be identical performance-wise, it should be similar enough that you will be able to play. That said, to make the most of Skyrim, it probably wouldn't hurt to upgrade, but I suspect you can get by with what you have for a while.

Even because the desktop from where I'm typing is only 2 years old, so it's not going to be changed for at least the next 4 or 5 years. I could add some more RAM at the end of this year, but that's about it.

Hail,
I've just watched the gameplay trailer again and promptly got goosebumps when I heard the MW-Choir-version-theme... ;D
In any case, I am really looking forward to this - since I have not updated my PC since 2008 (geforce 8800, 2GB RAM), I still hope I can at least play it, if not in the highest detail level...what I read here is encouraging, though.
Take care,
Seeker

Hey Seeker! It is good to see you! Yeah, normally I would agree but man did you see the graphics? To me the thing that is blowing me away is the graphics since I cannot get a feeling of how good the gameplay or the story is going to be from the trailer. If the trailer is showing what the game is going to look like then for me it would be a major shame to play it with minimal graphics. That would be like watching Avatar on a small 12" screen. I think the Q9550 is still ok to keep up with the new technology. I am more worried about my vid card. What I am currently eyeing is the 6850. Its nice and small (my preference). Hopefully it will continue to go down in price so that by this coming November it will be at a nice price. Maybe I will just set up my sub in my wife's rig and just run my rig with no sub.

Well, I watched Avatar in 3D on an huge movie theater's screen when it came out, and while the 'graphics' was great (and that was expected, with all the billions they thrown away on that movie) honestly the plot wasn't. Man we're talking about Elder Scrolls, the things from which I expect to be blown away are the dialogue and the story as well... My rig is still pretty new, there will be plenty of time to enjoy the graphic as its fullest. Anyway... Skyrim main theme on keyboard. Enjoy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=veWnhcbKl3k

Won't be able to play it on my 7 year old Dell clunker, as I cannot even play Oblivion on this thing. But the Mrs. got a decent notebook on the various end-of-year sales and her SIMing, Morrowind, and Oblivion scream on it. So hopefully by release time, I can try and save up for a more contemporary rig. But I still don't think I will buy it on release date, as I made that mistake with Oblivion and that it can be had now for $20 and under for GOTY edition...I think I will wait until the fervor cools down some.
I'm just jazzed about a game set with two of my favorite things, Dragons and Nords.
